Like MikePal the ice storm woke me up as well, and we had to eat from a shelter - never again. Homesteading has become our prepper plan and self sufficiency as a rule. Being as self sufficient as possible protects and insulates from inflation as you retire to a different income standard. Plus running a farm gives you a "thing" to do and stay more fit and healthy, plus you know the source of your food production.
Something simple as chickens (although chicken math does factor in YouTube it lol) free range if possible can provide you plenty of high calibre food.
