Your example of the communist party would fit this example. The NDP are not the communist party and not as far left as the communist party (can't believe I'm defending them) and are hence not ULTRA. They are definitely left as I stated but until they espouse the ideology of total state control of everything i.e all property, banks, business, corporations, religion etc. they are not ULTRA.

And just for the record I do not support them and think the NDP or libs federally would be a disaster. I am however a little anal about fear-mongering, i.e people on the left calling Harper a dictator and people on the right calling the NDP/libs Ultra-leftist regimes.

I have no doubt they would govern from the left. They would not however implement full blown communism as calling them ULTRA-Leftist would suggest. As I stated, it would be political suicide - they would never get elected again. They have been elected to majorities in numerous provinces aver the years - do any of those provinces resemble Cuba or the former Soviet Union? That is what an ULTRA-Leftist regime resembles. The NDP are certainly left but they are not an ULTRA-leftist regime.

Calling them an Ultra-Leftist regime is at best an exaggeration and at worst fear-mongering.

Particularly given that the NDP has in fact drifted steadily right since Jack Layton became leader. They have become a party of pragmatic social democrats rather than socialists of the Broadbent era.

Let me tell You from where I view. Having had residence in USA I can tell You Harper is about on par with a right leaning democrat. The libs claim to not be as right as that. Leaving the NDP where? He's not making 10-20 mil promises like the others. Mulcair's making promises galore and 100-200 mil each. Goin to come from somewhere

Have not seen them in power federally but that changes nothing. The discussion is whether they are an ULTRA-Leftist regime not whether they are left or right or left of the liberals. We all agree they are the most left mainstream option. Being the most left and promising to spend umpteen billion on everything with massive tax raises as result does not make them an ULTRA-leftist regime. It makes them a bad choice. To be considered ULTRA-leftist their ideology would have to be full blown communist and include having the government seize control of all private property, all businesses and corporations, all finance and banking, religion etc.. None of their current platform includes any of this because they know the result would be a one-term government that would never win another seat again.

If you believe they are an ULTRA-Leftist regime, than once elected, that requires you also believe they will seize control of all private property, all businesses and corporations, all finance and banking, religion etc.. Can't have one without the other.

To say that the NDP is communist because of their past is like saying the Con. party is the Reform party is it not? Would you find a born again christian leading the U.S. Democrats or the Republicans, ya that's what I thought. I do not want anyone leading my country to believe he is beholding or answers to a higher power,( FSM), than the voters.

OK,I'll admit that it may have been an exageration given what you've cited,BUT,I really believe we'll be on the proverbial "slippery slope" should the NeeDeePers be elected to even a minority.

Interesting point. I'm a big believer in the separation of church and state because religion (or lack of it) is such a personal issue for the average person.

So I'm gathering you folks took the term "dictator" in the literal sense. I was a little loose in the use of the term so I'll retract that word as used. I won't apologize for the fact that I feel Mr. Harper has ruled his Partyand the House of Commons with an iron fist. His omnibus bills that wrap any number of pieces of legislation together into monsterous packages such that the minority parties could never debate or amend most aspects of the bill are a complete scuttle of democracy. In a minority government I could likely live with Harper but as a majority government he didn't live up to my idea of a leader.

So he killed the Gun Registry BIG DEAL! I hunt and own guns and I frankly didn't have a huge problem with the registry except I didn't feel the registry was secure from hackers. Reelecting Harper because Trudeau or Mulcair might resurrect some form of the gun registry ....... don't think so. I'lll look at the other issues as well.

PS. Sorry Warner I didnt' get the point of the two lists?
