Some chatter on new gun bill

I came across this release by Global News, another point of interest.

Councillor Dave Woods has resigned from the ruling civic party, Surrey First. Woods served in the RCMP for 43 years
.“I believe if there is a need for handgun regulation change or enhancement, recommendations should come from the Association of Canadian Police Chiefs,” he said.

I support Dave on the idea that banning handguns would hurt law abiding citizens, but I disagree that the Association of Canadian Police Chiefs make any recommendations about handgun regulations. Most Chiefs get there position because they are political animals, Chief Julian Fantino was Conservative and Chief Billy Blair was Liberal. I know both personally and none of the two know anything about handguns or the sports shooting fraternity.

One think I have learned on this forum in the last 10 years is that I have a very limited knowledge of firearms and their history in Canada.The recommendations should come from the target shooters,collectors,Canadian Legion vet,s.......and point people from groups representing hunters from across Canada.

If we are a democracy any changes to firearms laws should be made by Parliament and the respective parties should fight it put on the floor of the house.IMO

Unfortunately the trend is to remove expert user groups and replace them with anti-gun activists. So basically it just a matter of time but yeah we will look like Australia soon.

I have a theory, on the about face of Police Associations, I have to imagine a large number of their members are recreational shooters. Although they have their service pistols, they likely also have privately own handguns. So they are likely to be affect by a handgun ban, like another law- abiding individuals not involved in law enforcement. The general public, that have nothing to lose from a handgun ban, by contrast have become convinced that the gun is the problem, and guns are too available. So any gun, irrespective of how they are being used have become demonized. Our government along with its law enforce branch has gone out of their way to convince the public, that this is the case. Now, the Police Associations are beginning to realize how their arguments about the gun, have come full circle to bite their memberships, where the sun does shine. Hence, they appear to be back peddling. They’ve started a new mantra, guns in the hands of law-abiding individual are really not the problem. The fact is they never were.

Years ago , there were many recreational shooters among the police officers, these days not so.
They hardly have any police shoots anymore, time is taken up by golf tournaments.

There is so much overtime being worked that even golf games are in peril.

In 2015, China (10, 641, 789 kilotonnes), US (5, 172, 336 kilotonnes), EU (3, 469, 671 kilotonnes), India (2, 454, 968 tonnes) and Russia (1, 760, 895 kilotonnes) were the top five CO2 emmiters. We weren't even in the top 10. In 2015, Canada (555, 401 kilotonnes) was below International Shipping (642, 024 kilotonnes).

Try actually reading what I posted and what you quoted.We are the biggest users of fossil fuels.That does not translate to us being the worse offenders for CO2 emissions,your probably unable to comprehend the difference.Canada selling off oil to China and America by default actually makes us the worse offenders for
co2 EMISSIONS,we could leave the oil in the ground and it might help save the planet.I suppose you are not yet convinced on this man made global warming issue?

Emission measurement is the biggest indicator of fossil fuel use. You stated Canada is the biggest user of fossil fuels. By both your evidence and mine based on emissions measurements, that is untrue. China is first not only because of oil consumption but they use coal to generate electricity. It isn't my comprehension which needs to be brushed up on, bud.

Bringing our oil exports in a defense of your fantasy about Canada being the biggest user won't cut it either. Selling a product to a country doesn't mean Canada is liable for how that country uses it. You don't add in Saudia Arabia, Russia, Iraq or the UAE's oil exports into their use of fossil fuels to make your claim we are the biggest users of fossil fuels so therefore you can't bring ours in either.

I am not making facts up. Based on my link, Canada wasn't in the top ten. But I will accept your evidence that we are in the top ten but that doesn't make us the worst users of fossil fuels. That is hyperbole. Your evidence is by country and doesn't include CO2 emissions by shipping or aviation.

As for your question about if I believe climate change is man made or not. I think our fossil fuel emissions are a factor but not the only one and I leave the possibility open that it isn't the major factor.

Try thinking out of the box for just a minute,think in terms of per capita use, we are the highest by far.If we sell oil to China or America do you think they will put it in a museum OR burn it off.We are the biggest fuel hogs for our own use and maybe the worse polluters for what we export to others.If you think fossil fuel use is only one factor towards global warming you are buying into your own bs.IMHO
