If you look around, there are studies that say the opposite too. That one wasn't hard to find. It's from 2015, but there's a recent update. I guess they've been receiving a lot of emails lately about their mask trials.

Same old,, same old, yes I agree ,everyone can find ,' reputable sources ' to back up their own point of view. Who would- could argue with, ' it may be beneficial to prevent the spread of covid ', and 'it can't hurt to wear one'? Please tell me what harm it can do to wear one? Except of course for legitimate medical reasons. Which are up to the individual themselves , to decide if those are just,.... for the right reasons. Necessity? Pride? Independence? Obstinate? Dare I say, selfishness?..
1 way to look at the cloth masks. "They" say that you could inhale a small amount of the virus and it would not be enough for you to catch it. If however you have a large amount ingested or breathed in due to being in a smaller enclosed environment your odds increase.
So if I wear a mask in a high risk environment then the virus will be in/on my mask and even when I remove myself from that area and I still have a mask on which is now impregnated with the virus I will still be breathing it in as my mask is now a target rich virus holding area even though my environment is now a zero risk. Try to convince me that is not true.
I will still wear a mask in public when needed or mandated, but change them out and wash them regularly at home.

It is clear to me the Milk Fed - Nanny State is alive and well. What is disappointing to me is the abject subjugation people willingly give over their rights. Government won't protect you (if they cared, they would have taken Tam's advice 14 yrs ago when she chaired the panel for pandemic responses and recommendations) That included stocks of PPE, no provincial/federal government has done so since.
So with lack of Publicly funded action - to a known issue that would occur - it has caused the government to react the way it did.
That reaction is smoke and mirrors to hide the facts they were not prepared (in Ontario the MOH budget is 56 billion dollar, lots of money to buy PPE). As a result government reaction was lockdown..only to hide the fact of lack of PPE. This is/was to avoid the political cost of mismanagement which is both Fords/Wynne's government failures. God forbid someone be held accountable for failing to protect the public..(proves they don't care) the opposition is playing its game of saying its Fords fault, but, this the same opposition who didn't take action when in power. The government is not coming to rescue you - unless the sitting government can gain politically from it (CERB). Take for example Trudeaus attendance at BLM protest in Ottawa..he was self isolated the whole time except breaking recommendation to not visit cottage, only stood at the pulpit at Sussex for daily breifing. Why did he come out to BLM, he don't give $#%^ about BLM - but there was voter demographic he could appease and gain from..that is why.
You see from a political point of view, it is far better to create a problem and fix it with your money, under the guise of government intervention (Trudeau Quote: "We took on DEBT so Canadians did not have to", it sells and is parroted by MSM..but the average person has no idea from that statement it is all Canadian's debt, and your children's, and grand children's debt repayment.) But it sells, and 47% of Canadians approve Trudeau's performance.
I think it might too late for people to understand how government failures have lead to government interventions to solutions governments created. I have friends whose kids have 10K in bank from sitting at home on snapchat, Instagram and gaming while getting paid to do nothing at twice the rate they were if working. They will vote him now... These are the same people Trudeau will speak to in the Election that is coming in Canada in Nov 2020, it is these people who the government "saved", because of its ineptitude (Fed/Prov).
Government has been inventing problems to be the savior of solutions to their own problems...and it works. Identity politics is the methodology that creates blocks of voters. A group is far easier to control, then having to speak to individual on a policy document. This is why CONS are no longer CONS, because they have pander to that identity group to garner those votes - or they will scramble to next who sells what is best to that's groups interests. CONS are trapped by the identity politics in which they helped create. This is new political norm - where the interests and what is best for Canada is no longer valid and has been replaced with how do I get elected or stay in power!
If you can understand the basic premise of what I am writing (you are now woke) and how policies that protect individuals rights and not group rights are the only thing that will return Canada to the people. Until the CONS start writing policies that protect these rights (which it won't with 2 generations of social re-education of our youth) or the system totally collapses into a Venezuelan scenario...it will be too late.
A great saying I remind people of with Democracy's - You can vote your way into Democratic Socialism (AKA Communism), but you have to shoot your way out.
Or - Democracy is an illusion - 51% vote still denies the 49% representation and creates resentment.
People still have choice about masks.
You can choose to wear a mask
You can choose not to go to those places where a mask is required.
You can claim you have a "medical condition," argue with store clerks and otherwise act like a complete jackass.
Lots of choice still to go around.
