So we can all listen and follow what our government thinks we should actlike , think and do.

They think it is their job to influence Canadians how they should think and do things .

Oh and another thing .
This second wave thing our hospitals are full many running at full capacity the last month. And only a few people with covid. We are seeing almost the same old packed hospitals as pre covid.

They say our hospitals ran way over capacity last winter. They will be in for a big surprise soon.

Also the USA at almost 100 thousand a day won't take long for herd immunity. With a vaccine available soon they will be way better off then Canada.

With trumps super spreader events herd immunity is just around the corner [emoji1787].
Yet
Canada has stated we have let our guard down by loosening restrictions. We need more restrictions to slow the spread

We can see the shut down of restaurants didn't help. Yes cases didn't spike after closing them but we haven't seen a decline either. Sorta stuck in between 2 rocks.

I hear through the grapevine another shutdown is looming in January.

Ottawa residents need to “get back to living” and learn to coexist with COVID-19, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Vera Etches said Monday.

Speaking to the city’s Board of Health, Etches said Ottawa Public Health is taking a new approach to the pandemic that recognizes the virus is not going away any time soon and that people have to learn to live with it.

“COVID is going to be with us for the foreseeable future. We are in the early days of learning to live with it.”

She said she hopes a “balanced” approach will allow businesses to remain open, as long as members of the public do their part to limit the spread of the virus. She said restrictions are taking a financial toll as well as a toll on the mental well-being of residents.

Etches said she is encouraged that cases and outbreaks are stabilizing in the city as a result of actions taken by residents. And she said the daily case counts do not reflect the current state of transmission, but often the situation two weeks earlier when the transmission took place.

“I want the people of Ottawa to know that we can do this. We can learn to live with COVID, to coexist with COVID with care. The health of our population depends on it.”

That message, that COVID-19 is going to be around for a while, was echoed in the draft budget tabled at the Monday board meeting.

Ottawa Public Health expects to spend an additional $23.7 million in 2021 — similar to the additional amount spent this year — to respond to the COVID-19 crisis. That includes the additional cost of testing, tracing, school support, infection prevention and control in long-term care homes, communication and more specifically related to the pandemic.

The budget, she said, “assumes that we will be responding to the pandemic for the duration of 2021.”

Ottawa Public Health, which is funded by both the province and the city in a 70-30 split, will ask the province to pay the full costs related to the pandemic for both 2020 and 2021.

The draft budget does not include the costs of administering COVID-19 vaccines.

“Such budget impacts are currently unknown,” Etches said in the budget document. “A full costing and description of required activities to administer a new vaccine will be provided to the Board of Health once the provincial immunization plans are made known.”

Etches said the assumption is that the city will continue to see outbreaks and live with the threat of COVID-19 throughout 2021.

“COVID will continue to be in our community for the year and we will continue to have to work to keep the level managed.“


Etches showed members of the health board a new communications campaign that encourages Ottawa residents to think of the reasons they have to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The campaign, developed by Ottawa Public Health in collaboration with local hospitals, is called One Million Reasons.

“We all have our reasons to stop the spread. We are one million strong. The actions of individuals do make a difference.”

Etches described the message as a “harm reduction” approach to COVID-19 that would include the importance of individuals doing their parts to reduce transmission with businesses open.

And she said businesses are working hard to be able to be open safely. Keeping bars and restaurants closed encourages people to socialize in groups in private where such transmission precautions do not exist, she said.

The health board meeting comes just days before the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions are set to end. Premier Doug Ford asked Ottawa for input into how to reopen businesses safely. On Monday, the premier congratulated Ottawa for stabilizing infection rates.

Etches said Ottawa residents will be encouraged to take part in outdoor activities this winter as a means of improving physical and mental health during what could otherwise be a difficult winter.

“Our hope is that encouraging people to partake in outdoor activities will help combat COVID fatigue.

“I think the tone has been a bit more what you can’t do, it doesn’t convey that we are living, it conveys that we are not living,” she said.

“I think we need to get back to living. That is for the health of the population too.”

They talked about it at the beginning . Heard immunity they said won't work on its own ,but with a safe vaccine it's very effective with heard immunity included.

Not everyone will take the vaccine so their needs to be a some sort immunity in the community. A vaccine alone will not work unless they force it upon our rights. Even then I will not take it and I do not stand alone.

Our silly pm ordered over 500 million covid vaccines for Canada as an insurance policy incase some are not effective [emoji12] . There goes a billion dollars down the drain . We have the capability to produce over 100 million a year in Canada why buy so many ?

Even the regular flu shot only 4.4 million were available in Ontario last year. They order almost 6 million this year but that is not even 30 percent of Canadians get the shot.


Maybe it's time for China's way

Build new hospitals not just add 20 thousand beds in them lol. They are already over capacity without covid.

China is the on top of the world right now they they have created even more jobs and has a 10 percent increase in the work force since last year. There economy is booming business right now while the rest of the world is in a struggle.

Our hospitals are struggling without covid and there is no plan for covid patients.

Oh I forgot there is a plan to let the old die in the old age homes . With covid

My grandmothers days are numbered and nobody is aloud to see her . Only my aunt can visit for 30 minutes a week.
What a horrific way to go all alone

My grandfather waited to see the family before it was his time. He waited for our reunion to say goodbye . He didn't eat for 19 days he was bed ridden but he was counting the days until we all came. He would ask how long till we all come . He pasted that night but we all got to say goodbye .

Now you are on your own you would think they would loosen some restrictions when a family members days are numbered. But nope they are on their own. Sad

Yeah and when we finally figure out how to deal with COVID 19 ... then COVID 21 will come along .... or some other fancy name ... and we'll just keep running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

They say how the virus is running wild in the United States

Some quick numbers show the deaths by population is barley double of our rates.

Total deaths by population 0.07 % USA at 350 million

Canada 0.03 % at 35 million


What's the difference between them ?

Yes big difference but many refused to shut down in the USA.

We are on tight restrictions here in Canada. Also more shutdowns will be issued and plenty more businesses will be closed permanently.
How many that took big loans can afford to pay it back? Yes they were simply handed out to shut them back down [emoji849].

Many in the USA would like to see the economy boom instead of the dealing with covid. The people would rather be working than to shut down. Keep the economy open has more of vote then the shut downs.

In the end I truly believe they will be in far better shape when a vaccine is available .

What happens when a vaccine is present in Canada ? With no heard immunity a vaccine is pretty useless . If 20 % of Canada gets a vaccine 80 percent of the population will be sitting ducks


Just saying [emoji23] at least when it comes down to a vaccine the USA will have 50 to 60 percent protection interested of our 20 to 30 %.
