Actually he did I think it was around the second week. Trudeau claimed Erin O'Toole was going to legalize all guns
It's a "darned if you do; darned if you don't" situation. The Conservatives will never hold power with a hard right platform. They tried to become central to attract a broader scope of the voters and got accused of not following their roots.
They did, however garner enough votes to win the election, they held the Liberals to a 'minority'. That was a Win, not a loss. The fact that they also won the popular vote proves the election system is broken, even the Village Idiot promised to fix it...just fail to deliver on that promise.
Agree that cons cannot win a federal election on a hard right platform.
What the country needs is for either side (libs or cons) to put together a middle of the road platform that isolates the left and right and appeals to the middle.
This is what used to happen in Canada when a party won a majority. You cannot govern Canada with only the right wing vote - not even with the right and middle-right.
As long as conservatives push for hard right policies, the liberals will continue to run the country.
I don't think there is anything 'hard right' about the PPC. The problem is the overton window has shifted so far left that people have lost perspective.
But I understand what you're saying. Basic, even centrist positions (such as no mandates and basic freedoms for all) are seen as "far-right conspiracy theories" so it's a long, hard sell to get things back on track for any party to the right of Stalin.
People want their free stuff, cheap goods, immediate gratification, 24/7 access to drugs & booze, and constant reminder that everything is always someone else's fault. Good luck trying to put that genie back in the bottle.
Pretty much, the Liberal lies, coverups, corruption and the blind dedication of their accomplices in Canada's looming crash are dismissed by the bought and paid for media that have no issues with lies themselves. The people that paid some attention could see the sh** pile the Libs are but many blindly went with the flow or ignored or had no interest in thinking or morals. Mad Max made sure the Libs got the votes they needed too, still less votes than the Conservatives but the LIbEralS kept their minority, they call it a mandate though. I went into most of the lies etc. in the link below but its sad the moral and mental lack when even the Simpsons cartoon understands him better or they don't care in the Tru-Cult and like the lies and power grabs... just like Mao, Stalin, Castro supporters.

They aren't for the most part if you compare their position to a couple decades ago... BUT when you move centre 10 steps to the left due to the media, lack of integrity and entitlement philosophy a tiny bit right from the past suddenly looks very right. Integrity, honest, balanced budgets, ethics, hard work, fairness, equality... all are hate words now to some on the left using the old definition, not the politically correct version the left changed it to. Amazing the hatred of the tiny bit right by the media and the accomplices when you look at history it is the National Socialists, Communists and Socialist dictatorships that are responsible for so much pain, death, loss of freedoms etc. in the last century... rushing to make the book 1984 a role model and ignoring history, dooming the future!
I thought this was the plan:
"A think-tank funded in part by the Canada Mortgage Housing Corporation (CMHC) and National Housing Strategy is proposing that homes valued at more than $1 million be subjected to an annual deferrable surtax as part of a plan to tackle housing inequality."
As I don't have a million dollar home, I wasn't worried.
