I definitely believe you. Most of my deer were taken in probably the most heavily hunted crown land you could find. It's only 80 acres, but It's super thick. Full of nothing but vines, tall grass, and fallen ash and pine trees. So it weeds out 99% of the hunters that wont go further than 100 yards in at most and they usually miss the main crossings. Only thing is the deer go completely nocturnal in the late season. It's also bordering a private property that is owned by uber anti-hunters so it provides a safe haven for them. Which is actually good because you'll usually have a few deers at all times nearby.
