Forum Rule changes/upgrade -proposal

It's really quite simple if you don't want to see what has been posted in the off topic section either don't click on it or have the admin remove it from your viewing. No sense in raising one's blood pressure for unnecessary reasons . For the one's that want to participate in it by all means go for it because I'm sure if off topic was removed it would only leach into other subforums for all to see. Also the admin has stated in the past if a particular member gets one's knickers in a knot head to the settings section and block them from their personal viewing. I personally haven't blocked anyone as I get a good chuckle out of all the banter and especially the ones that the 10% rule applies to. Cheers :)

I agree with you Fisherman, this site has people from all walks of life and I like that you can ask questions and see what everyone else has to say about it.

Of course the MODS are going to continue to be able to participate; their very participation is one of the reasons why they care enough to moderate.

OK, let's digress along those lines a minute, shall we?

1. This is an Ontario Out of Doors forum.

The main focus of the magazine, as well as the OFAH, is outdoor pursuits. Hunting, fishing etc. As should be the forum.

There are lots of other venues where a political opinion can be developed, published and debated. Having the off topic section tends to dilute that mission.

Assuming you subscribe to OOD, or others like Field and Stream, would you want the magazine delivered to your door with lots of other content? Car reviews? Op-ed pieces on abortion, etc?

2. We also need to remember these forums are public. This is not a closed club, or secret organization. At any given moment there are a ton of people visiting these forums. Our conduct, and published opinion is made available to the general public for review....warts and all. Do you feel that lots of the opinion and behaviour in the off-topic section is a good example of us as an outdoors community? Do you think it necessarily aides our ability to present outdoors people in a positive light?

Genuine ask.

Fisherman,
I believe they'd be posted in the sub-categories, but you're right to say they could go in several places. A fishing hack could go to either "Equipment" or "Fishing 101." Would you prefer to have a DIY section? Also, here are the DIYs we've posted on oodmag.com thus far: https://oodmag.com/?s=DIY

It's true, that we don't have NEARLY as many housekeeping tasks from the Hunting, Fishing, and Outdoors-proper threads, but the other stuff, politics, news, global strife, what-have-you, still bleeds in to these topics. I say let them stay, provided people can maintain a respectful rapport within the discussion.

Re: Offensive language, including all racial, ethnic ,political or religious ,or sexual slurs, as well as personal attacks, including name-calling and insults directed at other forum members is prohibited.
Offensive language examples:__

I feel like we've been steadily amending this already, that a member can cite an opinion on a political or religious stance, as long as they're not attacking the people who believe in it, i.e. You can attack the ideal but not the person.
Example: Said government is corrupt. -> A-ok.
The people who voted for said government are corrupt. -> Not okay.
As for offensive language, I'm not suggesting we include a laundry list of slurs, but what would you consider putting on here?

I can’t believe we need to spell this out for some people. I figured this would fall under common sense. Incredible.

What about a question not related to hunting and fishing. Many of those have been asked in the past.
