The NRA likely stand that way, because down in the States they accept the idea that you have a basic right to self for any reason you have to retrieve your firearm, if a handgun from a locked container, remove a disabling device from it, then retrieve the ammunition that is suppose to be stored apart from the firearm. Its most likely by then the home invader would be all over you, before you manage to loaded the firearm. I recall a story once of a woman in the States, who did her house cleaning with her handgun strapped to her hip. Her point -
what is the use of owning a gun if I can't get to it fast enough to defend myself.
In this incidents the mother appears to have legally purchased firearm, loaded it and left in somewhere, that the 6 year was able to retrieve and stuff it in his school bag, as well he seem to know enough about handling it to shoot his teacher. Its not as yet clear why, may he was just attempting to find out what the gun could do. People like to experiment with new things, and kids even more so, because they want to now what they can do with things.

And yes, it’s everywhere not just in the US. Many (most?) kids here have lost respect for the teachers, they aren’t bringing guns to school but certainly are bringing their attitudes. No politician has the guts to tell the electorate to start putting their kids first and be better parents….but that’s what is needed

When you read eight Toronto teenage girls manage to murder a homeless guy for a Mickey of booze, all eight sets of parents of whatever description they may be should be the one's to face some sort of judgement.

I hear what you are saying and agree with it, but it's a different world out there now a days compared to when I was a kid. Today you have both parents working just to put food on the table, a roof over theirs heads, two vehicles, with most living from payday to payday. No time to look after the kids, and if you do lay a hand on them they bring you to court or sue you... That's what's happened to society in todays world..

So how do we fix these issues? Government always thinks more government is the key but it's not working and hasn't worked.

I don't think it can be fixed. It's the way our entire society has evolved and it's only going to get worse. And it's not just the government who thinks more government is the key. Too many folks out there expect more and more handouts. They demand to be looked after and coddled. They expect gov't intervention to solve all their life's challenges. I think we're all guilty of this to some degree, whether or not we admit it to ourselves?
