Outdoor Card cash grab???

I don't think it's a great mystery. The card identifies you as someone that is entitled to hunt. As long as you have that card you can pick up a license to hunt whatever species you're interested in hunting. Remember, lots of folks still pick up their license at the last minute from the local Canadian Tire etc., and they need to know you're a legal hunter. How is it different from a drivers license? If you want to really get worked up about cost, take a peek at how much they deduct from your pay cheque each pay period.

Most places I hunt (except ON) all you need is a Driver's license to prove residency(or other documents)to get ANY Hunt or Fish, Trap license if born before 1973. If after 1973 one must attend a Game Warden run hunter/safety course. Once that is established there is only a trip to WalMart to get whatever license you need or online or any licensing agent.

No license for any outdoors activity from 65 years old and older.

I am a small business owner and Collect HST for the government. When I pay that money I have a $7.50 dollar administration fee to pay them their own dam money. But keep smiling because it will only get worse.

You're right, it is no mystery. The outdoors card system is redundant now that the licensing system has changed ,yet again. In this day and age of computers, a person should be able to go to a license issuer and show ID. The issuer logs your info into the puter and viola! It would show that you are a legal hunter, qualified to obtain a license. That info is already in the system.
As I said earlier, I believe the card only exists now so the gov't can (under the guise of convenience) issue you a 3 yr. fishing and/or small game license. They get to play with your money for the next couple of yrs for free.

The outdoors card IS THE ID. Until they tie all databases in the province together you'll need some form of ID to show you're a hunter. There will some day be a universal card for all provincial gov't licences (there are LOTS of them, I have no less than 6 of them in my wallet) and then people will be really happy....... or will complain about "big brother" watching them.

Won't they be able to just put all that info on 'the chip'....once they insert that, all they'll have to do is scan your arm..voila :)
