lake Bernard outfitters counts minnows but atleast they are still priced cheap , some places down my way charge 10 to 15 a scoop for minnows , that gets pricey when fishing 3 to 4 times a week , I finally went and got a licence to net and sell,
Now I have 2 huge tanks behind my garage , I fill them full of minnows , sell to the local shops when needed,
pike attack you probably shouldn't complain about the bait shops not being open on time and when they count minnows because even still your only paying 5 a scoop X

ya but why pay 5 bucks a "scoop" in lake bernard outfitters that consists of like 20 minnows, when i can stop in orillia at jacobs and get a full bucket of minnows for 5 bucks no tax? I did the minnow harvesting thing last spring, its good, i have a huge container for them and a pump and everything but i found when you go ounce a week and not always even use minnows, its not worth it money-wise, i know a couple trappers who harvest them and then sell them to the bait shops really cheap, i know one in the kawartha lakes region and whenever I'm down there, we come by his place and he always gives us some minnows.

Hey buddy if you are netting them and have those tanks why buy them and pay anything just take your stock and head to simcoe . No issue about buying bait on the way up.

I only net in the spring and summer , I usually sell them to 3 or 4 bait shops down this way when the minnows start to get thinned out and head out to the deeper water and they don't last threw the winter garage is to cold the water freezes in te tanks , and unless I got the minnows tested by mnr it is against the law to take minnows out one water body to another , there is des eases carried by fish that the mnr doesn't want spread into new lakes. It's potentially a pain in the but , but that's the main reason we now have gobbies in our lakes .
And if I were to do that and got caught my licence to net and sell would be terminated meaning potential income gone. Not worth the risk .

Cool just asking.

i net minnows every spring in the holland river and fish them in simcoe, they last a few months, depending on how much i hold.

You best be careful , there is a limit on how many you can legally net and keep for personal use , without a licence , if you are caught by mnr for netting over your limit of minnows the fine is pretty large .
Best be careful there.
I net in spring and summer and hold up to 1500 minnows at one time in my tanks , we use a 150 foot and a 50 foot saine net with a huge pouch , one pass you get close to 500 minnows .
I also supply the local shops with minnows , all but one . Cuda you know which one .

yes i know there is a limit of which you may take as live bait possession, i usually don't even get to it, (i really only use live bait in the winter, unless fishing for walleye) in the winter i support the bait shop in orillia (jacobs) they deserve it and will continue to get my business as long as they are around, great guys there for sure, 5 bucks and you're set for at least 3 trips.
