Proposed Black Bear Management Pilot Program
in WMUs 13, 14, 29, 30, 36, 39, 41 and 42

A notice of application has been filed with the court challenging the province’s decision to implement the proposed bear management pilot program. The application is scheduled to be heard in court in Toronto on April 29, 2014. We intend to defend our position on this issue.

Depending on what occurs in court, the proposed hunt could be prevented from starting on May 1st as planned.

Please refer back to this site or contact the Natural Resources Information Centre at 1-800-667-1940 for updates on the status of the proposed bear management pilot program after April 29.

The purpose of providing you with this information is to ensure you are kept informed and should not be interpreted as providing any evaluation as to the merits of the applications.

I'd sure hate to be an outfitter that has been booking hunts and taking deposits...

Also the time, effort, and expense for baiting ... etc etc.

If this is held up or stopped then those guys get the rug pulled out AGAIN!

What do you think the odds are that the Liberals introduce this thing to get the votes,then get their bunny-hugger buddies to monkey wrench the thing so it doesn't happen,anyway? I wouldn't put any scheme past these lyin' bas**rds.

So with all the recent articles about the treatment of animals at the farms where they are raised and the slaughter houses that process the animals, organizations like PETA and Mercy for Animals should be supporting hunting instead if fighting against them. After all, the animal roams free in it's natural habitat and then is killed cleanly and humanly instead of being housed in a tiny cage and tortured before being killed (at least according to them, there may be some truth to it).
One way or another, we are going to eat meat, but perhaps the right to eat meat should be limited to those that are willing to go get it themselves?

I have been waiting for this argument to surface in the media. It is surprising that it hasn't. I think harvesting an animal in the wild is much much much more humane than most farm raised animals that people purchase in a grocery store. It is sad that a lot of people don't really understand how they get meat to the grocery store, they just know that is where they pick it up.

wacko PETA types are against slaughter of all types and any animal use or husbandry. not sure about the other organization mentioned.

I read an article yesterday that a couple in Stratford is trying to get a ban imposed on boiling lobsters alive, and want them at the very least to use a stun gun first..... They are aspiring vegans (currently vegetarians) and are against any animal slaughter...

its surprising how people are disconnected from where there food comes from. some even eat the meat but get bothered hearing that it came from an animal. I like to remind people like this every single time they eat near me, that what they are eating was a living thing. I think its disrespectful (to the animal) for someone to deny this simple and important fact about the meat you eat. I also like to remind people that the fields where there veggies are grown were once animal habitat clear cut, just to let people know that even vegetables impact nature and animal welfare and something must die for something else to live.

I predicted that in the beginning,another promise broken and they will blame the opposition for bringing down the government and forcing an election.

If you check the FWCA it has been updated with the spring season
