One factor I'm sure, would be hunter numbers. You will have a much better chance of crossing paths with other hunters in Ontario, than you would in BC or Alberta for instance. My buddy hunts BC, where hunter orange is not required. He says he can hunt for a week and not encounter anyone else.Quote:

I recall a conversation I had in Calgary a few years back. My Albertan client boasted that in Alberta they don't need stupid nanny state BS like blaze orange. Well, they do now ... he hadn't hunted in years. Why not, I asked....

Mot sure where you live but in Ontario when hunting for deer, moose you must where blaze orange it's the law, For bear you must where it ton where your hunting from. Second if hunting small game with other people well my opinion is your just asking for an accident. I always where my blaze orange when hunting small game. I don't really want to get a bullet or shot in me. Just my preference mind ya.

As someone else mentioned, choose a blaze orange jacket (just checked the Cabela's site and they have several different options with long sleeves in blaze orange from hoodies to micro-fibre jackets). The jacket front, along with the sleeves plus a blaze hat should give you plenty of visibility with an orange pack on your back.
I know you said you checked with your local retailer but why not shoot an email off to Badlands and ask if their material color meets the standards for hunter orange? Most manufactures can provide that info.
On a side note the regs may say hunter orange is only mandatory under gun seasons for deer, moose, elk and black bear when traveling to and from stand, but you decide out side of those seasons. Do you consider you are safe where you hunt? Are you on fenced private land, and do you trust your companions with your life? Are there fall turkey hunters in camo in your area? So many questions??? Isn't it simpler to wear orange than not.
I hunted for years before hunter orange with out incident, know your target and pay attention to your environment. We had a camp rule even before hunter orange: that anyone at camp wore bright red vests (i actually wore orange camo back then) or jackets period so transition to orange was easy and made sense.
If your heart is set on that pack...its amazing what you can do with velcro and fabric to improve your visibility.
