I know the area I grew up in is littered with jacks, the farmer are getting fed up with them
Those are some nice jacks, I bet that guy did his home work and put in the legwork. As others have said the jack numbers are decent and I beleave there is a huntable population of them in Ontario, but the regulations on them are outdated. 6 jack limit for a day, to high for the numbers we have here these days.
6 Jack limit per day is too high for sure and although I love hunting them with a varmint rifle, I don't know if it is great for the population long term.
I myself set a limit of 2 to 4 total per season depending on the numbers that I am seeing. 3 Jacks is a lot of meat, a handful of good hunts and a box of ammo.
It should be 2 per person a day!
My buddy has put in many miles all over south western Ontario trying to locate areas that hold a decent population of them. I can assure you that none of the meat is wasted unlike some coyote hunters who he has come across who just shoot them for sport and have no problem admitting to it. He as well as I have hunted these Jacks for many many years and remember the good times when they were very plentiful. Hunting them is not the reason for their downward spiral, it has to do with habitat and the explosion of the coyote population.
Great shots. We hunted them years ago in the area. There were some big rabbits, especially having to carry them around all day until you got back to the truck. Great eating too.
