trucks and traliers

Here's some info that I will try to put as simply as possible(some of it may be what others have stated):

-travel trailers and fifth wheel trailers are exempt
-if either truck or trailer has/requires yellow sticker, both truck AND trailer need yellow sticker

If you are towing the following types of trailers:
-utility, snowmobile, boat, motorcycle(I may have missed some)
the following calculation is used to determine if you need a yellow sticker on BOTH
truck and trailer.

Take the highest of the weights listed below for the truck:
-actual weight(from scaling at truck stop)
-registered weight(from registration slip)
-GVWR(usually found on sticker on door jam of vehicle)

Take the highest of the weights listed below for the trailer:
-actual weight(from scaling)
-GVWR(from manufacturer's sticker)

Add these 2 numbers together.

If the result is greater than 4500kg(10,000lbs) then a yellow sticker is required on BOTH.

that sounds right and in the case of travel trailers it is just the truck that needs the safety sticker ,so I am told ,,so now I am wondering if we need the safety for the truck to haul the boat ,,Dutch

I'm told that 95% of the charges are for over loads,unsafe tires,hitches,lights and safety chains. Some of thr driver stupidity boggles the mind.

I guess that depends on the size of the towed camper. If the camper weighs more than 2800 kg's then that weight needs to be included in the RGW on the registration for the truck. If the RGW indicated on the registration is greater than 4500 kg's then the truck needs a sticker.
How big is this camper you're talking about? I was picturing a half ton Chev 1500 pulling a single axle camper.

Edit, I went back and read you first post. I suppose a 24 foot camper could be over 2800 kg's, but I doubt it. If so then they may need the sticker on the truck, but that would only be if the RGW on the registration was over 4500 kg's, or if the actual weight of truck and trailer combined exceed 4500 kg's. So, it could be possible that they need it but without knowing whether the RGW on the registraion is over 4500, or the actual weight of truck and trailer exceed 4500 it's all speculation, but it could be close.
I think a 24 footer would measure in around 2000 kg's and the truck would be about the same.

Just remember that this document shows "three new exemptions for personal use of pick up trucks"

This only means being exempt from CVOR and log books, it does not exempt you from annual safety certification if your combined GVWR is over 4500kg
