Hunting between North bay and temagami. Moved 12 birds.
how long were you out for to move the 12 birds ?
Short hunt on Friday in my "hotspot" near Midland. Flushed 8 birds, shot zero, the brush was way too thick and they were very skittish. I was flushing them out at 10 yards.
Went back again Saturday and couldn't find any. Scoured 3 different places in Simcoe county sat/sun. Managed to flush 2 grouse but no shot taken.
about 2 hours. These birds were the hardest flushing woodcock I have ever encountered in my short hunting career. These birds were jumping 20-30 feet over birch trees then taking off. it was intense. It's the first time I traveled north to hunt them before the flights move south. It was a very challenging shoot to say the least. The dog worked like a champ and held steady for majority of the birds.
I considered going up there as well but I was told by many of the large operators that they did not have a lot of Woodcock mostly grouse
It does sound like a very challenging scenario and enough birds to keep you going
What kind of dog do you have
Cool sorry I couldn't tell from the picture mine is a wire hair Pointing Griffon are you finding any birds locally?
I can remember may be 25 or 30 years ago we hunted deer the first week of November and I was on a watch and just a dark a flight if woodcock landed around me must have been near a hundred birds .pretty cool to see .we were in a over grown fallow muck feild that was boarder by birch and tag alders .never seen anything like that before.
