As for the hunt part, 25 or 35 or 45 yards won't make any difference if the wind is wrong. And if you're actually going to target a brute that size you better be totally prepared beforehand with equipment and extra bodies like Greenhorn said. Imagine if it ran 100 yds into dense wet crap before dying and you had to get it out. You can't just drag a sac of goo that big hehe. Or pick it up and throw it on the back of a quad. Even with three guys.
Here's a good tip on a cheap, very handy, and almost bulletproof homemade "rig". Take the hood from a small car or wee truck and use it as a sled. Make holes as required to accommodate ratchet straps and tow points and you can strap bear or deer down tight. Rocks or even soft areas don't matter much. Works well late season in the snow too. Even for hauling out barrels or supplies, stands or whatever, any season. Atvs do help though lol
If you look at my avatar pic you can make out part of a hood on the ground behind my big girl. You can see the winch mounted to the hood, and then used a smaller 12v battery stashed with it in the bush. We had a small three wheeler and two guys to help pull/steer after I made the call. One last hill we couldn't make it and had to use the winch. After that is was flat pull to the owners house and then celebration and gutting and dressing and hanging.
Anyway, it turned out to be one of those rare times where every thing just came together that day. You never know right, that's part of why we hunt.
One last thing. You may be fresh as hell, but if you have an opportunity to kill a bear that big, you should take it, because you may never get such a chance again.
