If there was science that supported a behavioral change in humans linked to the lunar phases then I might be more accepting of it also having an effect on the deer, but the science is just not there, in either case.

I pay exactly zero attention to when a magazine published in the southern US tells me to go hunting deer.
Its actually published out of Iola WI, which is North of most of Ontario's deer country. A latitude about as far north as Algonquin park. People not familiar with US geography seem to forget that the contiguous US goes all the way up to the 49th parallel. If your in eastern or central Ontario, 49N is way up north. John Ozoga's articles are usually related to the Cusino enclosure which is in Northern Michigan - the climate there is similar to the extreme northern range of white tails in Ontario.
Don't dis the mag too much - its obvious you are not familiar with it. Of all the outdoor mags I've read - it stands head and shoulders above all others - except maybe gundog.

This is post rut - the big ones are searching desperately for the last hot doe.
This cruising drunken search lasts 4 days. Some years it's nov 16 to 20. Other years 18th to 22nd!
During these 4 days you should hunt all day if possible because the regular morning and evening hunt ritual just does not apply.
If you should get lucky and see a cruising bruiser you need to kill him or kiss him goodbye. He won't be back!
I always start on the 16th! Better to be early then to find out you may have missed a day or two!
Hunt bottlenecks, pinch points, crossings.
Deer and deer hunter is not perfect but his theories are not bad on the basis that most of our gun seasons run along the chasing phase of the rut . October 31 until the first week of November is always a good time around here in Southern Ontario to see and harvest a mature buck.Quote:

I have to disagree with you on this one Mike. A guy at work was known to go 'a little loonie' in and around full moons. He had been there for over 30 years, My father worked with him when he started, I worked with him when he left, we have both witnessed it, along with everyone else who has ever worked in the building. Hard to argue with over 30 years of first hand encounters... science be damned, they didn't have to work with the freak.Quote:
