Yes i am aware they are the same active ingredient with the Liberty 50 being 50 % and higher than the Advantix. The rating was off of the TSC U.S.A website. The only thing I can think of is the Advantix may have another ingredient added besides Permethrin for better results. This could be the reason for the increased cost of the Advantix compared to the low cost of Liberty 50. The same thing would apply when herbicides & pesticides are applied to weeds or insects in some cases another product is added for better or higher kill rate. An agent is added to prevent from washing off after a rainfall .
The advantix II has an improved water resistance than the older version so yes it's not just the permethrin that matters.
Thanks for confirming that Terry !
Well since the 2nd active ingredients in the both products....Pyriproxyfen (Liberty 50) and Imidacloprid (Advantix) are basically both pesticides....that reasoning doesn't hold much value...at least not worth the extra cost.
Imidacloprid is a systemic insecticide which acts as an insect neurotoxin and belongs to a class of chemicals called the neonicotinoids which act on the central nervous system of insects, with much lower toxicity to mammals
Pyriproxyfen is a pyridine-based pesticide which is found to be effective against a variety of arthropoda.
Once you have applied the product, it's gets absorbed into the skin, being waterpoof is pointless unless you plan on applying it and then sending them out in the rain....we put it on before the go to bed at night so no danger of that happening :)
I'm not sure what you folks pay for Advantix now, I'm assuming it more than $120 for two months but when you can get the same coverage for $20 for 2 months you have to ask yourself why ?
My brother used the Liberty 50 with good results . I paid $50 U.S from my vet for 3 months Advantix II and she would throw in a bonus month for free. The proven Seresto collar seems to be the best value for up to eight months and would be cheaper than the Liberty 50. Seresto it will be !
I thought about the Seresto, but I don't want my dog wearing 3 collars in the fields.
I pay $120 for a 6 month supply of Advantix II. Get it from my vet with Heart Gaurd. I know it works great and my dog can't walk by a body of water without jumping in. I have never picked a tick off of him and places I hunt are full of them.
I also have used Advantix 2 for the last three years with great results ... I pay $16 from my vet per tube (once a month).
