I have a 16ft. Lowe tiller, I run a 40hp Yamaha 4-strokeI will do 32 by myself and 29 with two but my grandkids, teenagers, can tube behind it. Being a senior citizen I also have electric start. I really like my Yamaha and 40 is just enough power for the boat. The larger motor gives you more flexibility. Good Luck.

That's the one thing I wish my Honda had... But I got a crazy deal on it with the Honda I had too. Originally was looking Evinrude or Yamaha.

I have the 16ft fury tiller with Yamaha 30hp, VTS adjustable rpm and power tilt and trim.
I highly recommend the power tilt and trim for accessing shallow water and keeping sand dirt out of the motor if you launch smaller launches.
With three people in my boat it does 28mph, with only 2 were doing 32mph.
With wife 3 labs, myself and gear for the weekend going to a island cottgae it still does 27 mph
If your just someone who drives from spot to spot, casting and wants to go as fast as possible go 40.
The benefit of the 30 is it will troll down to 1mph ( I troll for lake trout a lot in summer and going slow is required to consistently catch fish ).
I can get down to proper trout fishing speed with only one or two adjustments of the VTS the more you use VTS To lower the RPMs the rougher the motor will run as 4 strokes in general don't want to idle slow to keep oil pressure up.
I would run no other motor than Yamaha I've still got my 2 stroke 20hp short shaft going strong on a deep 14 Lund package that's 20 years old and I've maybe put 200$ into that motor and that has thousands of hours breaking ice duck hunting late fall season fishing in the cold etc. ( I lived on a lake for 18 years )
The 16ft Fury is a great layout for the fisherman. You will do fine with the the 25hp and the difference you would pay for 5hp can’t be justified since it’s the same outboard as the 25hp. The 40hp is still a 3-cycinder block so the weight will be kept down. Keep in mind what you want to do with the boat and how many times you will have a 3rd or 4th person in your boat. Will you have regret in the 3-4th year of ownership that you should of went with a 40hp will be the justification to max out the hull. You will never regret maxing the hp and will also be there for future use.

You may also want to upgrade to a 24V, 80lb thrust electric. Terrova or Ulterra i-pilot are the bomb and can go more than a day's fishing without a charge. Could also troll as much as you want in a day in stealth mode. Buy once, Cry once.... ;)
I really like my 16' Princecraft "starfish" fishing boat. Its wide and deep enough for the sometimes rough St. Lawrence river.
