Hunting Small Game With A Slingshot?

A slingshot is do less humane than a traditional bow, you need to practice and know that you will hit the target rather than hoping you will hit the target. A steel or lead ball at 1/2" diameter will kill when coming from a slingshot. Remember, people used to survive by throwing rocks at things, they got good at it and survived as a species by doing so.

To all the people freaking out about it being humane, you must only use a 10ga 3 1/2" for sparrows right? I mean, anything less is just asking for trouble.

Actually no. First I don't kill songbirds and secondly find 3" works perfectly on ducks and turkey although I fail to see how this "spin" comes anywhere near to wounding grouse with a very inaccurate tool. Do you still put cats in the microwave? Stupid comment eh? Hmmmmm....

Years ago, likely like most boys I played with sling shots a lot. With practise, so long as you know your limits they can be quite devastating. I never used one on anything live but I could destroy can and bottle at a decent distance. These days I bet I couldn't hit a pumpkin at 30 yards. :)

I would venture a guess its little different than a trad bow and blunt head. If you hit its down stunned at worst,and not going anywhere fast, such that grabbing it and finishing it is easy, or instant if you hit where your aiming. At worst it's a small target and you hit nothing but air.

In a big picture kind of way I don't see how its any different than using a bow, or rifle. Know your limits, stay within them. A bad shot at a Bull Moose 500 yards away is every bit as likely to leave a wounded Moose, as is a 50 yard shot with an arrow from a x-bow or compound.......

not many people can shoot accurately to 500 yds nor do they have a clue what the down range ballistic/trajectories are.
Yes you should limit yourself to your skill set. To kill a grouse you need to hit a target the size of a quarter. Every time. Yeah I know all the internet marksmen here can do that and never miss a grouse' bobbing head.

Yes. For some of them.

The question was regarding legality, yet some dive right in to the ethics issue. None of us LIKE hurting animals intentionally, but I'm guessing any projectile would cause a certain amount of discomfort. In hunting the intention is to kill. Maybe those with these ethical issues should give up hunting altogether.

I don't have any issues with my ethics and the killing of game animals.

Not sure if that "some of them" was directed at me or not. :)
Doesn't matter if it was or wasn't.

That was basically my point, it doesn't matter what the tool is if a person doesn't stay within their limits, which includes knowing what the tool is capable of at X range.

For example. I am very comfortable using my Trad at 20 yards, 30 yards not so much. Don't put enough practise in. While I wouldn't grab it for Whitetails I might consider it for a days walk through the woods for some different small game. At out to 25 yards Im either going to kill it, or hit nothing but air. There isn't much in between.

Powerful enough sling shots with the right shot, are going to have "similar" forces. If aiming for the head/neck its either done or your bruising air. If you do happen to hit the body, likely crushed breast bone/wing. In which case its going nowhere fast and finishing the job would likely take far less time than the recommended 30 -60 minutes waiting for a whitetail to bleed out. Not sure, thats theory but I'll put it this way.

I would rather be hit by a paintball gun at close range ( they can break skin and leave welts) than a good slingshot with a heavy ball.
That is going to do serious hurt.
