While this 15 year old, who was a willing partner in his fathers crimes, his sister arrested just last year, was found guilty, served time, committed murder and built IEDs ..... gets an apology and $10 million.

Maybe it's time to get the facts before jumping to conclusions.
Khadr was born here and is a Canadian citizen.
Was taken over there by his radical father as a youth.
The SCC of Canada ruled years ago that Canada first under Chretien and Martin failed to fight for a Canadian citizen as required by Canadian & International laws and than Harper failed to do so also and Harper went even further by disregarding a SCC ruling for him to do so.
Yes the Canadian Government failed him as required by law & this is why we are at this point.
If the Canadian Government would have petitioned to bring him back here & tried him under Canadian & International laws we would not be here at this stage.
With the previous SCC rulings there is no way the government wouldn't lose in a law suit.
Settling now most likely saved the government very much money for both the settlement & legal fees.
I'm not saying I'm happy with the outcome but with our government's past practices it was predetermined.
Yes the government screwed up & now we are paying for it.
Blaming the current government is off base. Yes the liberals under Chretien and Martin failed to address the problem but it was Harper who made the biggest mistake. He deliberately ignored a SCC ruling and let this continue.

You are correct. However, no where in the SCC ruling was any compensation mentioned; nor was Khadr seeking any during the SCC proceedings. In his civil suit, he would have been required to prove that Canada conspired with the US for his treatment and we are liable for doing it. He has not done this; nor, with the nice shiny settlement, will he ever have to do this. Would the government lose? Probably. Would they have had to pay the full amount? Probably not. When my wife and I were involved in a civil lawsuit, our lawyer told us the worse thing is a civil case going to trial because of all the uncertainty involved. The onus is on the plantiff to convince a judge that the defendant has wronged them under the law and then convince the judge that they are owed what they are asking for. The government hasn't even given us a concrete explanation for this decision, just platitudes about the judicial process (despite no judicial process happening). They just rolled over and submitted like a dog who just had it's parts removed.

The government did it so the Liberals could get ahead of Speer's widow and Mooris' legal pursuit of their claim. I heard part of the new conference Goodale and Freeland were a part of just now. Goodale was going on about how Khadr's detractors are ignoring the SCC ruling in 2008 (I think he mentioned 2010). I don't think anyone is ignoring the SCC ruling. Khadr's detractors are angry because the government capitulated quickly to a terrorist and a traitor. Goodale, when asked why wasn't something done about this guy in 2002 when his government was in power, tried to track everything back to the 2008 ruling (implying everything was the Conservatives fault).

I watched that "presser",too. Notice that Goodale and the Justice Minister conveniently failed to mention that the Chretien Liberals had the chance to charge Khadr under s 82(3) CCC when he was first arrested by US forces. All of this,then,would be moot. Paul Martin knew it was a crock of shyte and so did Steven Harper,smartly leaving well enough alone. Instead,the Liberals paint it as a ruling by the SCC and the best of a bad deal. I sincerely hope that out of all of this,the government sees fit to vastly curtail the legislative authority of the Supreme Court rulings,requiring instead that rulings be referred back to Parliament for parliamentary review. Today,nine Judges effectively run the country. This MUST stop.
