I looked at some of his other videos and this joker wouldn't know a fair chase hunt if it bit him in the arse and would likely curl up and die if he tried to hunt the big woods of Ontario. I actually agree with Bonkers that these guys show hunting in a bad lite to the un informed who think that's how we all hunt. The Anti's will always be anti but most people don't have a problem with hunting but this guys BS could sway opinion against fair chase hunting.

That could be said for ANY hunter who hunts Hunt Whitetail Buck at a 'Ranch' for a stipend of $5K. ...it's a cultural thing down south and is accepted by many hunters, even thought we may not comprehend it here. Going there to shoot Does during their annual cull with your 'Big' guns obviously acceptable to the folks down south.

Interesting how hunters pass judgment on other hunters that are doing nothing unethical or illegal because it doesn't tickle their fancy.

edit add: I just read thru the vast majority of comments to the video on you-tube and the majority of the 'anti' type comments were posted by other hunters....our worst own enemies :)

This guy does most of his deer hunting in high fence operations, I know I followed him a while ago. He was hunting whitetails in Saskatchewan and across the Mid-West. Also his African hunts were also cagged hunts. The man is a Anti-hunter. He is doing more damage to the image of hunting, people like that are the problem

Utilizing a caliber originally designed as an anti-aircraft weapon on deer is unethical and down right dangerous.
That is why we have shotgun only and ML hunts.
Good thing the sheer weight and price of that caliber only tempts a few nimrods but there must be a need for them to compensate for their smaller "manhood" part.
It is not being "anti" to voice your opinion when you witness stupidity.
The real "anti's" frequently form their opinion without comment. It is them we need to worry about and explain that acts like that are not the norm for hunters.

How is it dangerous? Will the 50 BMG go through the ground? Will it ricochet more than any other rifle? I hunt in a zone that you can use a rifle, it is hard for me to believe that a 50 BMG would be any more dangerous in the area I hunt than a 7mm rem mag. You always have to know where the bullet will end up after the target, this is always the case. If you want to talk about dangerous rounds, the 22LR tends to bounce off anything.

Say that using a .50 cal on a deer is unethical is unsubstantiated. Most Muzzle Loaders on the market are .50 cal. In fact I have a .58 cal that shots soft lead 600 gr Minnies that leave a devastating wound channel in a deer....is that even more unethical ?

How fast it goes thru the deer is irrelevant and how much damage it will cause is also irrelevant because shot placement dictates how much meat would be lost as with any caliber. He is in fact in this video purposely taking a head shot to minimize meat loss.

The size of the bullet is not an ethical debate and not illegal.

As hunters you can rationalize and make points and arguments in favour of your tool of choice to harvest game all you want however to the non hunting public you have to present a case of why you should still be able to enjoy that privilege.

I responded to an email from a non hunting co-worker yesterday as apparently this video has gone viral. I explained that in Ontario it is not typical for hunters to blast away at deer with cannons to suck the eyeballs out of deer.

See where this is going!

And Mike, to compare a muzzle loader with the 50 BMG is totally ridiculous on your part especially from someone who is ex-military.

You can choose to justify it but the fact is that the 50 BMG is as legal as a 357 Mag, one someone will tell you has not enough power and the other someone will tell you is a cannon. I cannot believe how often I read about infighting in the hunting community, it is total garbage, be legal and be ethical with your shots, those ethics are your own. If enough people feel that laws should change you will be sure that they will force their ethics on the rest of the group, hence why Grizzly hunting in BC is gone, why spring black bear in Ontario left for so long and why hunting might go out the window with all these idiots posting videos online for shock value or simply because the blood and guts is cool to them.
