Truck talk

Small trucks come with big expenses because there are fewer of them. Its basic economics. Check out what a set of rims /-tires will cost you. But I'd never buy a small pickup based on that alone. It never fails that a day will come when that puny little box won't take what you need.
Another basic fact--bigger engine, more power takes more gas.Thats a no brainer.
I've owned a pick up since 1971 and driven them on the job every day. My ideal truck is an automatic tranny, small V8, 4x4, extended cab, a/c and satellite radio.

I'm hoping to get a newer truck later this year, if I do it will be the Aluminum F150. Makes complete sense. Not Rust and rust is the number one killer of trucks. My Buddy just bought a 2018 had it Rhino coated and the underneath rust treated by Ford in 5 years it needs to be reinspected for frame rust and he is good until he dies.

He bought a plain Jane which seem to really baffle the dealership no add on's all he got was single Cab, 4wd with locker and the body shield. No Power windows and no power doors, no nothing else and the floor is just plain no carpets. Took 9 weeks the dealer said nobody ever order something so plain before.

Ford switched to Aluminum in 2015 so I will be looking for a 2016 + as soon as I land a new contract.

when going to purchase a new truck I took the whole family and made a day out of driving all the trucks and at the end of the day the Ford was the winner hands down
after almost a full year there has not been one single disappointment at all or anything I didn't expect. Fuel economy is decent at around 12L/100km about 1100km/tank. tows the boat, sleds and atv's with ease and it looks great
only suggestions I have are get the towing mirrors (they are amazing) add the spotlights, I also invested in a torsion towing hitch that makes towing a dream well worth the $700 investment

I drive the 2016 lariat with aluminum body. Excellent vehicle so far.

I've had my 2016 F150 with 5.0 for just over 2 years now. Great truck and good mileage, especially compared to my 2005 F150 with the 5.4. It still feels like a new truck to me everytime I drive it.

Edit, FYI 2016 F150 got top safety pick.

I also have heard (and seen reviews) of its 5.7 liter engine being very thirsty, even by V8 truck standards. Have owners found them to guzzle fuel relentlessly or is it similar to every other truck - all of whom are terrible on fuel? I am used to poor fuel economy - my Xterra with BFG KOs rarely gets better than 14 - 15 L per 100 km.

2) Will the F-150 hold up? In my vehicle buying experience (granted, no domestic full size pickups over the long term), my import vehicles have held up better (mechanically and body wise). I'm buying the truck as a ten year vehicle and don't want a rusting unreliable beast when it is a 7 years old with 150 000 km on it.

GM is building full size trucks in Oshawa,again,after closing their truck plant 10 years ago. Canadian trucks were always at the very top of JD Power Index for quality and reliability and were the market leaders for decades. Silverado and Sierra trucks have just started to roll off the assembly and have hit the top quality index,already. To check for a an Oshawa built truck,the VIN # will start with a 2.

I've been trying to replace my 1998 sierra (425k) for over a year now. I had been looking for a 2-4 year old with under 80k on it and was continually shocked by how much people are asking for them. I almost bought a 2017 w/ 37k on it for 33,500 - but with truck month starting, I could buy the exact same truck 2018/0km for less 2k more. Buying used doesn't make a lot of sense given the prices on the used ones.

For that price you get v8/4x4/locking diff/double cab/trailer package/20" chromed alloy rims.

Here's GM's truck finder. The prices there are cash prices - add about 2800 if you take the financing. Those prices include everything but taxes.

You'll find the prices much cheaper looking towards Toronto. Check both Kijiji and Auto Trader. I saw a 2016 at Christmas 4x4 F150 with 25K on it for 25 thousand
