I use something like this (Canadian Tire has a version). The mesh shoulders provide plenty of mobility for fishing and paddling. I dont know how it would work for swimming though.

The jackets are warmer to wear as they keep your back covered especially on cooler spring or fall trips whenn wind or air temps are low.
Inflatables are cooler and more comfortable but would be just about impossible to put on in an emergency such as uncerimoniously tipping in front of a crowd of other anglers.
Agreed. I wear a PFD for work every single day of the open water season. Much prefer the vest style on the cool fall days before I go to a full on floater suit. Its also why I dont buy the "I cant fish in a PFD excuse". I work in one, you can swing a fishing rod.Quote:

They only had the yellow. but the river I hunt ducks in is only 4 ft deep at best and 20 ft wide.,
