My rant....Give the cops the tools to do their jobs....

Curious. In the US, where the problems are worse. Are you suggesting that the inner city gangs whether in Chicago, Miami, LA likewise are all black.....

Or do they also include Hispanic’s and others. Point here is what the commonality. Perhaps maybe economic? Or let’s look at our own history, and the biker wars from the 70s, before Montréal in particular cracked down on the bike gangs. We’re hells angels black?

As stated, for the what, 5time now. Not against it, and it may be what’s needed. Don’t know. How did NY turn things around? By carding? But let’s be honest about it. And be honest enough to understand that few here actually know what life is like in the inner cities, nor would we be ok with it. The very fact, everyone here resents being singled out, pet se, when it’s gun control...... “it’s not us, it’s the criminals”.......

One only needs to look at the mugshots the police put on the media of persons wanted for serious crime or of interest.....’ nuff said!

Born in Toronto (near Honest Eds) then growing up in the Jane/Finch corridor I have a pretty good idea of what's taking place in and around the GTA. Most of the time that the cops are asking questions, they do so because they think something is up. Can they be wrong? absolutely but isn't that suppose to be their job, investigate suspicious people/gatherings and if they are not doing it right..... they should get fired but taking that tool away is just silly and only gives power to the bad guys.

Gangsters keep guns on them because they don't have that big fear of getting caught anymore. If proactive police work turned into law again, I firmly believe a lot less shootings would take place.

PS. If you want less guns on the street, you need to target the bad guys.

What you said , holds a lot of truth.
Geographical areas, where you are born /raised/ lived/ do not necessarily mean that you will wind up on the wrong side of the law, that is solely up to that particular individual to decide which way to go.
There are many people that grew up in disadvantaged neighbor hoods and became very successful.

If you decide to take the wrong path, this is something that no one else is forcing you into, it is a decision only you as an individual can make, it doesn't matter what colour you are white,black, yellow or red , if you also dress in a certain way and your actions cause the police to look you over closely, you most definitely will be watched and should be, after all this is/was the police officers job.
However , the police are now denied the right to closely scrutinize people and the whole system is very quickly going down the drain as we are seeing now. :(

Jaycee, you really need to live in these areas, or spend a fair amount of time in them. It’s not easy breaking the cycles. You grew up with advantages these people don’t have. Let alone “white privelage”. We can pretend to deny racism doesn’t exist, and more. Saying so, doesn’t make it so.

That’s why we spend millions on “youth at risk”. Trying to get to them, through community programs, outreach, education, extra curricular, and far more.

One might argue, that’s one reason our problem, is no-where near the same as the US. We spend tons of tax dollars. Our poverty rates are nowhere near the same. That said, it’s still not easy.

FFS, despite most people here, in this thread being decent folk. The stigmatism is rampant.

Kids that grow up, the children of alcoholics, or of abuse tend to repeat the cycle to. “Funny that”.

Aside from the grip of fear gangs bring, who do you think flashes bling, parents that barely get by in cockroach infested communit housing or gangs...

Cops did not enter the Jungle alone or without a vest. And that was 30 years ago.

I grew up with no advantages or privileges.
My parents came over from Europe as CNR IMMIGRANTS,dad had the equivalent of 5 dollars when they landed in Quebec in 1928. From there they were shipped via train to Fosston Sask. where dad had to work on the railway for a minimum of 1 year , turned to 2 .
While they were out there , Mom and Dad lived in a converted "chicken coop "
They then worked their way to Kitchener and the depression set in. Times were very tough they lived in poor neighborhoods.
They then moved to Galt On. where dad found work in a foundry[hard work].
I was born during the war and times were still tough, believe me , I or my older brother and sister then my younger bother had absolutely no advantages or privileges, we were poor but we all made it without resorting to hanging out with gangs or the criminal types.
Clothes that I wore were hand me downs , most of the time my pants had patches sewn onto patches which the other kids laughed at , same went for my younger brother, there were no advantages at all.
My older sister went through a lot also as she didn't have the nice cloths that the others did, till she was older and started working part time and bought some of her own cloths.
The Police in Galt , knew us all as most of them went to the same Church we did.

Don't give me any of that B.S. about advantages and privileges,because you have absolutely no idea of what we went through' there were no ball games or hockey, football for us , as we had to come home and work around the small garden , then a larger one as this is what kept us living and the family together.

One thing my father instilled in us was RESPECT , and also said to do nothing that would besmirch the FAMILY NAME , which we never did to this day.

A mans world. Sure things today are way, way, way better than the good old days of bare foot and pregnant and the back side of our hands. It’s only been 100 years, since women were allowed to vote, and still being a man has its advantages, women still discriminated against and more.

I understand their issues, being a father to two girls, I get it even more. Engaged to a feminist I’ve come to understand even more. How despite all the changes, the media, Hollywood, the boardrooms, the star chambers, and political chambers are still run by men.

Do we also want to deny sexism? Can we men truly understand their world?

While I may not agree with every measure ( hiring quotas, reverse descrimination)

How can we fix the “problems”, until and unless we acknowledge them, and understand them better. Be it rape culture, or what it was like for women trying to get out of the kitchen back in the 50s, 60s, 70s....

It’s not a whole lot different.

Sure, it is economic and it's also parental and left behind and unfair and bla bla bla ...... Those "why" have nothing to do with stopping, controlling and questioning someone that looks like to have bad intentions. You are talking about color when carding is not only what's about , and when it does well numbers don't lie, suck it up buttercup... Plenty of white trash all over Canada that should be stopped and checked because we all know what they are doing in the middle of the day, selling craps, downtown.

Some people feelings are going to be hurt for the good of the entire nation and so be it.

I always joke about cops been just a bunch of "Investigators", they don't save someone very often, but how can they stop someone from doing bad things if they can stop them before something happen, before it's too late? That no-carding rule is non-sense, I can't believe our government and some of us can't see that (and this is not directed to you).

PS: I'm watching CP24 and guess who's the cops are looking for? Tips: They don't look like a bunch of redneck drinking Busch while driving Dodge trucks... ;)
