The odd rat around the farm and some mice in the house, worse than the last few years but I do not believe they are at their peak around our area. They seem to have cycles, I know when the hunt camps were hit really bad it was nasty.

Same here. An abundance of mice and crickets it seems
Updating. This summer we've seen a definite increase in mice in the house. The campaign against them is going nicely and we believe the problem is closed to being solved.
Saw one for the first time in three years just an hour ago
Traps set.
So far this summer no mouse invasion, and nothing in 2021, that was wild back in 2020 the amount of mice that were around, seemed like everyone I talked to was having problems with mice, you couldn't find a mouse trap or bait anywhere in the area. They built a nest in the air filter on my riding lawnmower that I found the next spring also got into my truck and started a nest in the under the hood air filter there. They also built a nest in an outboard motor I had out in a shed and chewed some wires off. I lost count of how many I trapped at 80 something and I know I got at least twice that many many plus went through a couple of pounds of bait. Sure hope that was a onetime deal !!!
I think you need to get some cats
Back at the old farmhouse I use to tackle them with a .38 revolver, loaded with cartridges having a primer, maybe a couple grains of powder, topped with a Kleenex wad, number 8 bird shot and a wad to hold the shot in. It was a case of finding in a location where you could cover their travel way across the kitchen floor to the breadbox, and dusting them with bird shot when they tried to use it.
You don't stop hunting because you grow old. You grow old because you stop hunting.
