What a heck of a mess the CERB program has created. The intend was right, but the execution of the program by the sitting government is a massive cluster fuque.
What a horror story created by not proper vetting claimants. Too eager to look like they were doing something and throwing caution to the wind. The Village Idiot was even warned that was going to happen but he overroad those concerns.

from May: But a new memo to Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) staff processing the applications says they should approve claims even if the person might have quit voluntarily or been fired for misconduct.
Adjudication of what it refers to as “contentious issues” is to be deferred until later, says the note, which was viewed by the National Post.

Sources familiar with the process say the same approach applies to Canadians who had left work or taken a leave of absence and travelled abroad before the pandemic. Even if that trip outside the country was pre-planned, they can still get the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) from when the benefit became active in mid-March.
It’s another indication that Ottawa is at least postponing the usual checks and balances for such programs as it strives to disburse billions of dollars to unemployed Canadians quickly and widely.
When there is evidence of potential abuse, said an earlier memo also viewed by the Post, employees should issue payments and not refer cases for investigation.
The government says it will pursue unwarranted or fraudulent payments later and is monitoring applications for possible abuse. But some people knowledgeable about the system are skeptical.
“I highly doubt any money will be recovered from those files since there is no misrepresentation from the claimants,” said one source about the latest directive dealing with the reasons people became jobless. “We have the information and it is our decision to pay, so I don’t see on what basis we could ask these people to pay back.”
Well the wife and I can't even apply even if we both lose our jobs.
As it is now I go home for about a day and a half to two days, then back to work. There are more and more shipments where dispatch doesn't say this is your appointment time, it's when can you get it there. In the last six months I have run eight loads that saw me driving 4,300 Km in 48 to 52 hours...California to Mississauga. That is normally a four to four and a half day trip.
Medical supplies move. I slept only six to eight hours in those two days.
Back in March I was given Two letters by my company. The first is to show police so I can get to and from work in the event of a 110% lock down. The second Says the HOS( Hours Of Service) Regulations do NOT apply to me when doing runs with things like medical supplies.
My company has put in showers and laundry machines, because there was talk of Suquestering Drivers at the terminal.
Essential works may have job security but it's going to put a lot of us in the nut house, Divorce court, and possibly a grave.
Why am I telling you this?
Well as I am working to "Save the world" out here on the road, it's been summer vacation for the last 9 nine months, with people driving everywhere. The "Relief" checks go in the bank automatically and they just drive around a make withdrawal as they need them..
Snowwalker,
A big thank you for all your efforts to keep us all going. Please do not sacrifice your health if you can avoid it.
I think there is a whole cohort of Canadians like me who are now retired and are in pretty good shape,at least good enough to work part time that could be helping out in the economy.
But the rub is there is a disincentive to actually get out of the home and work. If any one of us decide to work there is an automatic claw back on Old Age Security where you are over a threshold and you set yourself back a few years to re qualify.
A new government should see if they could utilize baby boomers, have them work part time but not be financially penalized.
We're not having any real problem...Food/meals are a scarcity in some states. They have restaurants shut down...I carry food in my truck..

See in the papers this morning a further 213,00 people double dipped their CERB cheques and MAY, yes MAY have to pay it back..
This is becoming a big joke and it's not funny .

The Canada Revenue Agency says it's warning about 213,000 Canadians who may have been paid twice through the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) program that they could be called upon to repay the money.
But repayment isn't required right away, says the agency. The CRA has suspended collection of debts for the duration of the pandemic emergency.
"The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has issued letters to individuals who may have applied for the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) from both Service Canada and the CRA, and who may be required to repay an amount to the CRA," a CRA spokesperson said in an email. "The letters did not require immediate payment; rather they informed the taxpayer that there may be a requirement to repay amounts received.
Pensioners got a token cheque for $300 while working people got CERB. The biggest laugh I got,so far,out of the entire episode was when Mrs.T (who has TDS to the point of a full-blown psychosis) received a Covid 19 relief cheque for $1200 US and a nice letter from none other than President Donald J. Trump (yes, she's a US citizen). The meltdown was epic,it was h-i-l-a-r-i-o-u-s. The mixed reaction after the smoke cleared was just as epic....a lot like watching your mother-in-law who hates you, drive off a cliff in your new truck.
