I agree with that. You should have a right to choose not to do it, but no one has the right to violate other people's sense of security and health ... so if you want to be in public places, you would need to be vaccinated.

My Doctor tells me that Covid-19 is a Coronavirus the same as every other flu bug which appear to mutate into different strains every year. The flu shots most people get every year are pathogen-specific and offer little protection against other variations. The best we can hope for is that a vaccine will mitigate the severity should we catch one of the variants or Covid-19 itself. Now,y'all can argue all you want,but,being a Diabetes II patient,I want all the horses I can get on my side. I'm still getting a Flu shot every year and will wear a mask when necessary. The rest of you can do what you like.

When I posted this, the US infection rate was just over 10X our number of infected, making it very comparable. The US death rate was 3.9% and Canada was 7.9%.

Since then the US infection rate has skyrocketed for some obvious reasons if you're to believe social distances is a protection.

Our death rate is currently at 7.5 and the US is 3.3. So not only is it still double but they're obviously improving on the therapeutic treatments at a faster pace.

Soon the US may reach the death rate numbers of other flu virus's and yet we have people here that refuse to even acknowledge any of it. Hate, hate, hate.

The number of Americans who have died from the virus as a percentage of population however is much higher than ours. 485 per million compared to our 237 per million.

The American rate of death among people who acquire the virus is lower because most deaths here were in long term care facilities and retirement homes where people are more vulnerable due to age and health status. The American death rate is lower because as it rampages through their population it is infecting younger people with a higher survival rate although many will face ongoing health repercussions from the infection.

The reason for the higher death rate among the infected but overall lower death rate is because we've limited community spread by locking down sooner, reopening slower, maintaining social distances, keeping borders closed to non-essential visitors, quarantines and, of course, wearing masks.

Had we acted like the Americans, a lot more Canadians would be dead.

The virus affected the LTC facilities in both countries similarly. One could even argue that local decisions by governors in NY and NJ inflated the deaths from horrible decisions on how they handled infected covid cases. Which would obviously improve their death rate.
If your going to count it based on population, maybe start adding some European countries together until you equate the US's population to actually see that they're doing something right when it come to controlling the deaths.

There are plenty of studies showing both sides of the mask debate. Some countries appear to be doing fine without mandatory masks. Even WHO has flip flopped on the issue. Making masks mandatory is government over reach in my opinion. If you want to wear a mask fine, if you don't that's fine too.

There is no need for mandatory vaccinations either. If you want the vaccine get it and if it works you have nothing to worry about. There is no reason for it to be other than voluntary like the annual flu vaccine.

Everything I have read about the COVID vaccination says it is not a normal vaccination and it is an mRNA vaccination that has never actually been successful. What I have read about it is worrisome and I am not that interested in being a guinea pig for it.

The mortality rate of COVID does not warrant continued lockdowns, mandatory masks or mandatory vaccines.

As gun owners we know how the government lies to prop up the gun lobby and uses emotion to enact nonsense gun laws. What makes you think they aren't using the same tactics and lies to promote mandatory masks and vaccinations.

I am a conservative supporter but Doug Ford's bill that allows them to extend emergency measures without there being a declared emergency is troubling, but everyone is on board because of fear.

Everyone in Canada complains about the Americans and their response to COVID. I just see a population that isn't willing to give up it's rights and freedoms so easily.

U.S. deaths as a proportion of population 10th globally. Their rate is lower than Belgium, UK, Spain, Italy and Sweden. Their rate is higher than every other EU nation.

More important is that currently America stands 3rd globally in new deaths with 514. The nearest EU country in new deaths is the UK at 65. Even accounting for the larger population Americans are dying at a faster rate today than any country in the EU.

The right of you to wander around in public and potentially infect people is less important than the right of people not be to infected by you. It's one of the reasons masks are mandatory in most of Ontario.

I had the esteemed privilege of watching the masked up hordes in action this past long weekend in Sauble Beach. From a distance and without a mask on myself of course. I tried to cancel but this trip was booked last year. Long story, but we ended up going.

I won't get into all of the boring details, but the pro-maskers really need to get off the koolaid. It isn't the few of us who would rather not wear a mask that are the problem, it's the selfish, entitled behaviour of mask wearers who will perpetuate it.

My family and I were only in contact with each other and the lady at the registration desk at the campground. Our friends (separate trailers and campsites) were elbow to elbow with the mases daily, and made stops in multiple towns and big cities on the road. We drove straight through (one stop for gas and drive through) and kept to ourselves. One day it rained nonstop, and while they went into town for more entertainment, we stayed on the campsite and made the most if it. Who is really "slowing the spread"?

The pro-maskers now have a free pass to go back to their old ways and that's what started this to begin with. I don't understand the attraction or need to be jammed in with other people for the sake of entertaining oneself.

As a side note, I made it through the entire long weekend without once wearing a mask or breaking any bylaws. My wife, who isn't sold on masks either, did not mind making the few required in person transactions where masks were required.

One key takeaway from the 1918 pandemic was that the potential benefit of masks is only achievable in conjunction with other rigid public health measures. Somehow we've disregarded history and come to the conclusion that implementing masks while dropping the measures that have been proven to work is the answer. Again I'll say, we'll see what happens when the weather cools down and people are back indoors.

That's what I wear at work as my workplace has deemed cloth coverings acceptable same with all the other municipal regulations they merely state to wear a face covering. You dont want a full on N95 dust mask for more then a few minutes or your face will sweat. The gaitors are much more comfortable IMO and I already am used to wearing one while hunting which normally is at least a 4hr sit. I wear them 8hrs at work and now I barely notice it.

An old person in a LTC might define freedom as the ability to see their loved ones and not be exposed or risk dying from something that so far science has deemed can be controlled if people follow the controls. Freedom doesnt mean you can run around doing whatever you want for your own personal gain at other people's expense without anyone controlling the situation, thats called Anarchy not freedom.

Times sure changed in the past few months. First were shamed for leaving home for anything besides food, even walking pets was being shamed. Those going to their cottage or camp would be met with bashing for being selfish and inconsiderate. So many of us being labeled the problem. And we continued doing those things on top of going to work everyday, and we did it without masks, while so many others sat at home in fear, bashing those who kept them from starving and the economy from total collapse. Without masks the numbers have declined enough so that the fear mongers can come out of hiding and go back to living again. It takes more then a mask to stop the spread, it takes commons sense, something thats to hard for many to grasp.

surgical and cloth masks protect the other person not you generally unless you add a filter, the masks don't have to be heavy to help and the scared, paranoid and angry will be less so... too much noise... in Japan they have been wearing them to slow the spread of colds etc. for decades and they seem to help so just wear the bloody things. Everyone is responsible for their own health. It's the governments job to protect my rights, it's my job to protect my health.

How much of our children's future are we willing to sacrifice for our safety?

When everyone thought the mortality of this would be around 3% people were throwing around the jelly bean argument. If there were 100 jelly beans in a dish and you knew 3 of them were poison, would you eat any. People never looked at the other side of that. The penalty for not eating any are inability to provide for your loved ones, bankruptcy, unemployment etc. For me, I'm grabbing a handful and many of us with high risk jobs do that everyday.

Life is full of risk and lots of the older people I know take their own precautions but do not want the next generation to sacrifice the future for their safety.

Our society has become so risk averse that we are losing our ability to function.

Some small businesses can't get staff now because they can make $2k on CERB and stay home (can't blame them), our unemployment is highest in the G7 and the deficit will likely blow past $400B this year ... and our gov't gave away tons of supplies to China and that whole fiasco, we were told masks and travel restrictions etc. didn't work, that they were screening at the airport (Rebel showed that a lied and I know people travelling after they said they were screening ... more lies .... with Justlied there we are so screwed!

It is definitely anti-semitic to equate requiring masks to be worn indoors in public places with the Holocaust. It diminishes the horror of those events and dishonours the victims.

There is no shortage of missteps and errors made by the federal government on the COVID file but they aren't the ones requiring masks be worn. It is either through an order from the public health unit or a municipal bylaw.

If your sense of freedom and dignity are offended take it up with them.

What good does a mask do when a 40 of bourbon gets passed around a fire and everyone drinks off it ?.

I wasn't there but heard the story this was last week.

What about the thousands of people having 100 people partys ? I know of 3 max events happening this coming weekend. Many 60 people gatherings what happens then ?


Guess many will be safer wearing their mask but many more will become sick from not following the proper procedure when handling your mask. My 8 year old knows how to handle her mask better then many that I see.

Washable hopefully they get wash after each outing

Disposables are available free at the entrance to many stores I go to. Why would you keep one?

And they are a dollar here. So I see ppl will use it them for ever

I go to work 6 to 7 days a week, I lead a group of 70 people I have to interact with up close and Im exposed to over 200 people every day just on my job. I know all about putting food on the table and the risk vs reward having a newborn in the hospital on May 6th right in the middle of the crisis. I have older family members who are gravely concerned about their health to the point they are on antidepressants for the first time in their life, I have employees who have comprised immune systems that still have to work to survive and cant afford the governments excuse of a handout who are deathly afraid of anyone not wearing a mask. I know people who have gotten the virus, I know of people who have died of the virus. Therefore I will continue to serve my family and do my duties and also respect others feelings and emotions through these tough times. We all take risks everyday, the real heros are the ones who put others before themselves. Even if you think a mask or any of the controls are silly, anyones choice to ignore any of the controls is purely selfish. I truly feel for the people who actually have conditions that prevent them from wearing a mask and everyone else marching around with their facade of an excuse should be ashamed. Unfortunately in this society some people have no shame and therefore cannot truly feel or empathize with other.

I wear a mask and/or social distance . I was wearing a mask before we were told to and why... because it makes sense ! All the healthcare workers were wearing PPE right from the start. I have seen the same happen with the PCR test. With my understanding of the testing, the antibody test shows have or have had a coronavirus but not necessarily COVID. With the PCR test it shows that you have only been exposed to it (it is in your airway) but will not necessariy contract it.

There are 2 types of people in the world. People that have had COVID and people that will get COVID just like the common cold and just like the flu. There is evidence that it is mutating and getting weaker but no one ever speaks of that because a population in fear is easy to control. No one ever talks positively about the Hydroxychloroquine treatment, why? No one ever talks about how to boost your immune system, why? A vaccine, masks and lockdowns are not the only way to combat this.

The world's reaction to COVID has been completly unscientific in almost everyway.

It almost took ahold of me but I had to shake it off ,the more I looked at the beginning watching the number, listening to news it started tripping me out. . My inlaws are terrified to leave they live a simple life and never went out anyways unless it was to an appointment or to go for groceries. But they say it will be a death sentence for them to go into the store.

Hope your family is ok the anti depressants wont do any good they will just numb the feeling and turn the head to mush . Kinda like a zombie no thoughts no feelings just a complete downer. How do you feel when you feel nothing from the antidepressants. Many people will be more hurt than the virus itself. Good luck and keep the good vibes around your family. Nothing surprises me much anymore. If they allow free flow of Americans to cross our borders at all entries its going to take a lot more than masks to stop the spread.

Opening the border in a few weeks isn't a done deal. I think they're just going to visit the idea again at that time and find its still not gonna happen til the states gets its act together.

Thanks man, nice words of wisdom there. Obviously everyone's situation is different, alot of divorce and separations going on, everyone stressed out where I work over the simplest things. This really is an unprecedented time in history, books will be written and the social and medical research that is possible because of all this is going to be good and bad in a way. I just hope we can get back to a new normal sooner then later, stressful times like this bring out the best and the worst in people.

The masks are not about safety if they were the WHO and other bodies/"authorities" would not have flip flopped on them. If it was about safety there would be standards for the masks not just any piece of cloth over your face. Anyone that believes there is science behind the mask issue needs to do some reading other than the headlines. I would say the masks are about control but that would give our leaders too much credit. We don't have leaders in this country anymore, they are followers getting advice from their medical advisors and they are failing to properly balance that advice against the advice of psychologists, economists etc. The singular focus of the governments approach to this should be disturbing to everyone. Many people are pro mask because the government / media have terrorized the population with their fear mongering and the masks help them deal with that fear. The Federal and provincial governments have passed the mask issue to the municipalities so that the can use bylaws instead of properly debated legislation. I doubt any mask legislation enacted outside of a declared emergency would hold up to a court challenge because there isn't enough evidence that they make a noticeable difference.

Masks are becoming a virtue signal and that's not good for anyone.

My local Foodland provides them as well as gloves, only one person has caused an issue and he shoved the employee. The police were called, he was charged with assault and is now banned from all Foodland stores. Serves him right, shoving an employee a 16 year old girl.

Thought maybe yesterday at a baptism, until I saw the sign that masks were not required but strongly recommended... so not required. I did watch a masked woman at the back lower hers enough to pick her nose for a few minutes before finally finding a tissue and finishing the job, then she put it back on. Doing her part I guess. Watched some waitresses on a patio nearby wearing them on their chins as well.

What a farce.

I am thinking about going this route as well. They are cheap and I can leave it around my neck until I need it lifted up. Carrying a mask every time I switch around vehicles just adds to the list of things I need to transfer around or remember to bring lol.

I tried to order from them,but,the order never showed. I tried calling and e-mailing and got "crickets". Package tracing was a joke with USPS. I tried a charge back on my CC. That didn't work,either. It might be another Facebook scam. I hope you have better luck than I did. I finally ordered from Cabela's. Had the order in a week.

Jeez, I hope I don't end up in the same boat, that's too bad. A buddy at work has ordered from them quite a few times so I went with his recommendation. I ordered about a week and a half ago, tracking says it was just processed through Miami. Small order so I won't be out too much if it never shows. Fingers crossed.

I get mine on eBay for about a dollar or two a piece and the fabric is stretchy and breathable, lots of vendors, never had an issue.

Another site to try is Wish. Lots to choose, I have ordered without issue. Just takes about 6-8 weeks.

There are no mandatory vaccines in Canada. Proof of immunization is required to attend public schools in some provinces or to hold specific jobs in health care but nowhere are vaccines mandatory.

So to some degree they are mandatory .

I will be getting the shingles vaccine, luckily my health plan covers it. My Dad had shingles and it caused some nerve damage, a woman I knew who worked at the bank died from complications. So I'm definitely not anti vaccine, but the Covid vaccine needs to be properly tested. Lot's of people will sign up for the first tests so we will know some answers 6 - 12 months afterwards. Also it is possible Covid might just disappear like the Spanish flu did.

There is no corona virus vaccine coming in the sense of a traditional vaccine. Any corona virus vaccine that comes out will be an experimental RNA vaccine. There was no vaccine developed for SARS (SARS COV 1), and they tried, they aren't going to come up with a traditional vaccine for COVID (SARS COV 2) either.

Doctors are finding out that there are after affects of covid, unlike the 'regular', flu. How much after , how severe , we are just figuring that out.

Yes that is correct. However that does not mean we will find a vaccine and we may never and if one of the potential vaccines do work it will not be available until in late 2021 or sometime in 2022. We can't hide forever and we cannot shut down again in such mass. I keep reading people who think we need to shut down everything 100%. Just imagine if farmers and food plants had shut down completely we would all starve to death in a year.

We may end up having to live with this until it hopefully goes away like the Spanish Flu did. Yup more people will get sick and more will die. But luckily we are not even close to the numbers of the Spanish Flu, which considering it was harder for it to migrate still managed to kill 50 million people.

Don't know who told you Influenza is a Corona virus. It is not. Influenza is in the Orthomyxo family of viruses. Different types of vaccines and different mutation abilities. As someone else stated there has never been a vaccine for any virus in the Corona family. If and when there is it will be a first and essentially an experiment on a grand scale.

Not being an MD or a research scientist,I really have no idea how vaccines work or on what except there's no vaccine in the world that cures a viral infection. If there was,the common cold would have disappeared decades ago. I'm going to hedge my bets and still get a yearly flu shot. As my MD told me,it may not prevent infection,but,there's a better than even chance it will greatly reduce the severity if I do pick up a bug.

Following the advice of your MD is a good plan. Just pointing out that comparisons to the Flu vaccine are not valid as the Corona vaccines being tested/developed are a totally different animal. The types of vaccine they are developing for COVID have never been used successfully in humans so if they succeed it will be a medical/scientific first.

Myself i will probably wait a bit but eventually get it if it appears to work. Similar to others i have been vaccinated up the Ying Yang for work and travel in Africa and Asia and to date have never had a bad reaction. Anecdotal for sure but my take is on the average they do far more good than harm.

There certainly was no mandatory vaccine for the H1N1 influenza. Same as the annual flu shot it was totally voluntary. Anyone who did get it would have immunity anyway. Interestingly enough it turned out that many elderly people already had immunity to it from being exposed to it in the past.

I am not trying argue either I am just trying to get some information out there and see if anyone has any better ideas.

The H1N1 vaccination would have been a traditional vaccination where you are injected with the dead virus and your body creates the antibodies. There are no implications to the human genome with traditional vaccination as far as I know.

This mRNA technology is a whole different technology. I am not a scientist or a doctor but my understanding is that it involves programming your DNA to emit proteins similar to the virus that your body then creates antibodies for. This has never been done successfully, it's all theoretical. Any threat to your progeny may be theoretical but do we want to take a chance for COVID. Is it really worth the risk? People being tested with it in current trials are asked not to have unprotected sex or donate sperm.

Any vaccine they talk about will be this type, they have never successfully created a traditional vaccine for something like COVID.

If people want to take it go for it. If they try to mandate it or make a prerequisite for travel, public gatherings etc. there needs to be some push back. This all started with 2 weeks to flatten the curve and now we are here with mandated masks. Are they going to continue with the fear and coercion until we willing accept an experimental vaccine? Where does it stop, what's the goal? Zero deaths? Every time we meet a goal they move the goalposts and we all keep playing along. 9000 covid deaths in Canada with 80% of those in long term care homes. Those deaths are a tragedy but they aren't the catastrophe that warrants the current response.

As for politicians using this crisis, start paying attention to the phrase "Build Back Better" you probably have already heard or will hear that from politicians in the near future. Type those three words into your search engine and start reading. It's the UN agenda to reorder the world economy on sustainable practices (green energy etc). Everyone in Ontario knows how well that works. This crisis is being used to try and implement this policy. Canada, the UK, the democrats and others are all starting to use that phrase in their speeches and in turn developing policies along those lines.

I dont honestly don't believe they will find a cure for covid. My belief is they will find something down the line of the yearly flu shot which will lessen the impact if you catch it but what ever they come out with I will certainly get in line for it. Whether I die from the shot or getting covid 19 I look at it this way we are all going to die someday some sooner than others it's called life.

The H1N1 swine flu pandemic was in 2009. It's not SARS, which is an illness caused by a coronavirus. That epidemic was in 2002/3 and since 2004 there has not been a case of it anywhere in the world according to the CDC. Lets hope that the same thing happens with this new related coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 which causes the Covid 19 disease.

Hey Trimmer, I think you were close but just crossed influenza with the common cold. There are a few coronaviruses associated with the common cold, none of which a successful vaccine has been created for either.

Anyone with a half of a brain could recognize that the language of this statement on its face, verifies the lack of evidence supporting masks.
