The shooter was already banned from owning guns from his past. How good did that work at stopping him?..

The point is they can ban all the guns they want but the criminals will still have and continue to get guns. They do not follow the laws so a gun ban only affects legal owners. They need to have mandatory jail time if caught with a illegal firearm. Like 10-20 years then they might think twice but instead some get out of jail within 24hrs of being caught with illegal firearms

Yes he was a criminal who committed another criminal act,we will always have criminals in our midst, but the government's job is to try to the best of its ability to minimize harm to the public.
Thank goodness we have a fantastic Prime Minister that is getting the job done as apposed to an opposition Conservative party in complete disarray, with a gutless leader. They cannot even get their act together to choose a new leader and the one they have apparently chosen will be effectively neutered on this gun issue because if he opposes it will get run over by the folk's in Nova Scotia and across the country. LOL
It was the law....but the Liberals removed it...
But they can waste large amounts of money on unnecessary gun buy back programs...Quote:
The Supreme Court of Canada dealt the Harper government's tough-on-crime agenda a serious blow Tuesday by striking down a law requiring mandatory minimum sentences for crimes involving prohibited guns.
Justice Minister Peter MacKay said in a statement that the government will review the decision to determine "next steps towards protecting Canadians from gun crime and ensuring that our laws remain responsive."
"Our government will continue to be tough on those who commit serious crimes and endanger our communities," the minister added.
Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau said there is a place for mandatory minimums in certain situations, noting that past Liberal governments have introduced them for "extreme crimes."
"But I think the over-use of them that the Supreme Court has highlighted, by this Conservative government, isn't necessarily doing a service to Canadians, both by not necessarily keeping us that much safer and also wasting large amount of taxpayers dollars on unnecessary court challenges," he told reporters in Oakville.

They have tried mandatory jail terms in the USA and the three strikes and your out policy. They ended up with the biggest jail population basically in the western world and costing the taxpayer,s billions of dollars.
The Americans are now reversing that policy as it was a dismal failure.Kinda like their gun laws are a dismal failure with mass shootings just about every week.
