My PAL application was received by RCMP on February 4th so 20 days ago. Today I check the application status and it said it was being processed. So because of reading all the advice on here and other forums I called to make sure everything was in order and they said yes. My colleague is my reference so I just passed him the phone and they interviewed him on the spot for about 5 minutes. Then I just thanked the lady and she said everything is good to go and it will be sent for approval now.
Given the fact that it will be 28 days (first time applicant) wait I can only really expect my license to be issued on March 3rd. Is there a chance that it could be issued later than that? They still have 8 days for all the approvals to go through. And if issued on March 3rd, when can I expect it in the mail given that I live in Burlington Ontario?
Thank you guys. Looking forward to joining the ranks of hunters with you very shortly!!!
Happy Hunting
If this is your first PAL and not a renewal I would be very surprised if you get it any sooner then 2 - 3 months. Renewals generally take about 7 - 14 days.
Yes this is my first PAL application. I will post here once my application is approved. The lady said I should have mine in hand within 2-3 weeks. Hopefully that is the case. I feel like I got really lucky with the timing here lol
Generally speaking if you are making a first-time PAL application, the earlier you start in the year the quicker the turn around time, as the year wears on, and the number applications increase as a result of firearm courses being held through the late winter and into spring, so the turn around period for getting the licence can lengthen considerably from 8 to 16 weeks. One thing for sure any first timers thinking of hunting in the early fall small game and duck seasons. Should be applying for their PAL, no later than the end of June.
You don't stop hunting because you get old. You get old because you stop hunting.

That's for sure Gun Nut. I totally agree with what you said.
Just got my PAL issued this morning. So it took exactly 28 days after they received my application. They said they will print it out in a few days and send it off by regular mail. They said I should be expecting it in my mail box in between 2 to 3 weeks. I honestly can not wait lol
Thanks for the advice provided
