WayneGretzky99, I'm not an expert either, but here's how even fishing newbies like you and me can tell it's a pike, not a muskie:
#1 - light spots on dark background. Muskies have dark spots on light, or in some cases stripes instead of spots.
#2 - the tail. Both pike and muskies have forked tails but a muskie's tail has pointy tips while a pike's tail has rounded tips.
The number of pores under the chin might be the most reliable feature for ID but the ones I said are how you can tell from LeavonP's picture.
LeavonP, awesome catch. Without giving away your lake can you tell us what general area it's from? I'm guessing Muskoka from the conversation on the thread?
Stevie Wonder could tell that it's a Pike not a Muskie.
