.243 sight in for coyotes

I shoot 58 grain. Hornady's. Out of my 243 I sighted it in for almost 2 inches high at 100 yards. It shoots almost 4000 feet per second. That screams like a hooker on pay day. I took a coyote at 320 yards. And works like Flint. Now i need a new stock, I had a oops a nice thumb hole stock will do the trick.

What barrel twist is yours if you don't mind. I have 2 .243s of my own that I'm working on fine tuning a handload for.

For most coyote hunting around here the shots are relatively close and if you plan on closer shots, zero it for 150 yards. With an 80 gr bullet this will put it around 0.5" high at 100 yards and 1.5" low at 200 yards.

If you plan on making longer shots regularly, zero it for 250 yards. The 80 gr bullet will only rise a maximum of 2.5" before 250 yards and drop about 3 - 3.5" at 300 yards.


In both cases you'll be able to aim dead on out to 300 yards and still get the yote.

My twist rate is 9.25 For a cheap gun it shot great. But I need a stock . less then a year old and the stock went of a permanent vacation.

A little work with the program, some time on the range..I mean who does not like time at the range.

Now when I am in the field it is point and shoot. No guessing for hold over/under.

It will depend on what type and weight of the bullets. I use V-Max 60 gr. hollow points for varmint/predators zeroed at 200M and 100gr. PSP for Deer also at 200M. I find it easier to adjust the aim point than mess with scope zeros all the time.
