Was out in Caledon this weekend for two hours and no woodcock but she is a young pup
with the arrival of grackles in the back yard would expect to find woodcock starting too show up here. Pup way too young but just may go kick around the bush lot. Not much fun without the dog but that twittering flush just too addictive to miss.
Ran the dog for a couple hours on Sunday, put up 2 woodcock together down near Windsor area.
Will check again in a week.
Found one woodcock in South London yesterday. Tired bird.
Hearing them in the field behind our house, in town, in Belleville about 20 minutes ago. No mistaking that call.
Any harm (to the bird, or the dog's training), to let my young pup (5 months) run around the field a bit, to see if he stirs anything up?
Had the dogs out today. Seen 1 woodcock in London.
None at my second favourite spot to day. The aspens are getting older so that may be why.
I don't know what's going on. I haven't found a single bird.
In all fairness it goes below -10 two days in row. But the ground looks ok for wc to be there... may it's just too cold.
Trouble is when they finally come they will likely fly through quickly and I won't have as much time on wc for the pup, as I hoped for :(
Ran the dog today and found nothing. The ground has cleared up big time so snow is no longer an issue around here. Got into deer and had to leave the area.
