How did you make out rob?
No that wasn't me Rob ... I haven't even splashed the boat yet ... It's been a busy April ..I just retired and had a lot to get done before leaving.. all the extra work kept me off the water ... I've got all the time in the world to fish and golf now though.... I've got to get the boat set up tomorrow ..I ll be on Rice monday to thursday and on Saturday I'll be on Tea/Severn River for our little Pike Tourney ! Hope to see you there..
I will be there, I am not going to the big Cache Bay event and haven't seen some of you guys in a bit. Last week was the first time I was ever on that part of the river system. Wasn't able to cover 1/2 of it in a single day. From that channel in Tea L, I launched at a cottagers place, and worked the better looking bays as far as Wood Bay. Sighted a massive Lunge on a mid channel hump. 55" fish. Found the favourable "Pike" conditions in most places with deep cabbage, sand and wood but not necessarily pike. Drop shotting for Eyes in 35fow we caught a mix bag of fish including Bass, Walleye, Crappie and Pike with the odd Red-Eyed ORR lake Crappie.(rockbass) using 1/0 spin shot hooks and 3-4" emerald shiners. By the end of the day my guest was starting to get into a good cadence with a jerk bait and twitched up a 31" Northern which train wrecked his bait. That was the biggest fish of the day among 7 other Pike also landed.
Frenchie it's a first annual lions club thingy i think...........but it is a river i fished alot when i lived up there and haven't fished in over 20 years.......Bruinz is also from espo so it is a home towns boys coming home to wreak havoc kinda derby............
I spread the word to couple of people in my area who fish for pike. Hopefully we can grab a few more boats. Fished against "Sir-Catch-A lot" yesterday and invited him to come out if he wasn't doing anything.
lol don't you think he'd rather be on muskoka catching 40+ inchers?
Steve was saying he has time set aside to chase them and already has also. Fur Feathers and Fins may show up
So barring any unexpected issues Island Jay and myself will be there, looking forward to it :)
Just wanted to re-open (was is ever closed?) the discussion around which launch. Talked to a guy who has a cottage on Big Chute and he said the connection between Tea and the Severn is long slow and very shallow (not an angler) and it sounds like most are thinking of fishing the Severn as opposed to Tea. Given all of that does it still make sense to launch into Tea? Buddy said the Launch at Big Chute is very good and lots of parking. Now I've never been to either so I'm just asking for clarification.
I always launch out of tea and goto the river and never had any issue. It's sketchy in one spot and the cottagers put up a dock that you can walk your boat along if need be. I trim up high and motor through. Other then that it's good.. alot of times I'll go through in pitch black if I'm on the river for eyes. To me.. it doesn't matter where we launch. You guys decide.
Cottage association cleaned out the channel a 2 yrs ago I heard. Ramp at the Big Chute is a better option, especially for those pulling bigger boats. Tea Lake Lot is a more private location.
