Dude... i'm still working. lol
I'm choosing to not spend a ton on hunting gear/commercial goods just because.
It's not like i'm lounging on beaches or living in my rustic mountain cabin trail riding and hunting all day long.

Right-on! In a way, I'm lucky that only recently started hunting.
I say that because about 6 years ago, I decided that I was going to get away the consumerism lifestyle that I'm surrounded by. Everyone around me seems to be competing with one another. If it's not the newest truck on the block, then it's the biggest house. It amazes me how many friends I have who have gone through 3+ houses before the age of 30; and they all use the same excuse. "It's a stepping stone to the next (and final) house" they say...every time they buy a new one, and roll their mortgage into a bigger or longer one. It's crazy!
So back to the hunting aspect of this. Being new to it, and trying to live a minimalist lifestyle - successfully I might add - I can learn from others' mistakes.
This is a great thread, the fact of the matter is......if you enjoy sitting in the bush, or spending time on the water with a fishing pole, you are in my opinion living a simpler life. When I'm going to the great outdoors, it's not about the truck I drive to get there or the equipment I use. I don't judge any other outdoorsman for what they have or don't have. It's all personal choice.
It's interesting to see when the guys show up at Hunt Camp in the fall. Most of the old guys show up with a single duffel bag, considering that is also their bed roll, I sometime wonder if they even bring a change of cloths for the week..true minimalists :)
The younger crowd however seem to bring 2-3 time as much stuff....seems like there moving in, their bunks are full of hunting stuff..their day packs look like the weight 50lbs :)
(not picking on young guys but it does seem to be a generational thing).
I bought a small pack and at times I find that it is stuffed. I have considered getting a larger one but I am not crazy about the cost. So I normally repack each day as necessary to add what is essential.
As I get older I find it harder to get chances to get out, so when I do I normally put the pack on to add just a little more weight since it has become part of my exercise routine. In the winter snowshoeing to go after coyote is a great weigh to get fit.
But any season is good for just getting out and into the woods, even if the woods are attached to a farmer's field.
