Best place in Ontario where a young family can live and enjoy the outdoors

I lived in the Kemptville Ontario region for close to 20 years. Early on 1990's the real estate was reasonable but once Hwy 416 went through to Ottawa the real estate market took off. The area fulfilled my dreams of dog sledding, establishing a kennel and later hunting. I now live halfway between Sarnia and Grandbend that offers a very reasonable real estate market with tons of hunting and fishing opportunities as well as fantastic job opportunities if you have a trade to offer. I had an opportunity in the Peterborough region and declined because the real estate market in this area was much better. The wildlife hunting opportunities are endless and had for the first time local venison that was out of this world.

Anybody from Sudbury here?? How does it stack up to the rest of the cities being mentioned??

I don't live there (yet), but I'm partial to the Kemptville area as well. It has everything one needs and it suits my lifestyle. I live and work in Ottawa, so the move just outside those City limits will be an easy one.

Having been there several times and having close friends who live there, I'd say Sudbury stacks up very well. I'd might even dare day it's better for the true outdoorsman. I go every year for deer camp because that's where my hunting partners live.

Don't come hear to Thunder Bay. No fish or big deer around here[emoji6] hahahahaha

Can't beat north bay

We decided to retire to Bancroft from the GTA, partly because of the hospital. Now I go to Kingston for cancer treatment , Peterborough for hip surgery related stuff and my back yard for venison.
We hear that the Peterborough prices will start to climb next year with 407.....
if I was doing it over I would look at the Parry Sound area.....but no summer hunting licenses valid there.

Well I must say, it appears the general consensus on the forum is that the south is a fine place to raise a family and fish/hunt? What I and several thousand others who live here in the north have to say to that? GREAT! It keeps this region free from the hustle n bustle and crap that everyone down south has, for some reason, learned to live with. Keep on, keep'n on is all I can say. LOL :thumbup:

Funny that. In the last 12 months I have been stuck in traffic on HWY 17 either side of the Soo and in the Soo itself more times than I have in my entire life in Grey County Southern Ontario.

As far as access to true wilderness goes the north definitely takes that one but as far as peace and quiet goes and good hunting there is no shortage of that in many parts of southern Ontario. I think you are confusing southern Ontario with the GTA. They are nowhere near the same thing.

Where I live it is definitely not hustle and bustle between Sarnia and Grandbend . I am a 35 min away from the U.S border to attend a NHL or NFL game. I have a 30 minute drive to hundreds of acres of prime hunting grounds as well as 2 local game farms. My backyard is Lake Huron for fishing and diver ducks and a 45 minute drive to Lake St. Clair for awesome fishing and duck hunting. No complaints and I think I will stick to this area and enjoy the nice weather as well. :)

Caught in a few snow storms have you? My version on southern Ontario is it starts about 2 miles past Sudbury. :D
