Used 4X4 trucks up in price

Well im not your average grocery getter truck owner. I use it for work, play and need 4x4 to get to work a lot of times. I dont have to commute far. It gets better mileage as many much smaller vehicles. Say if i had a car the averaged 9L/100 and say gas was a dollar a litre. Thats $72 to go 800km. Now mine at 11/100 is $88. The difference is peanuts. Your old technology truck wont even compete and any departement with mine. So if you wanna start another pissing contest on here Mike I'll beat ya everytime!

I must be the exception Mike lol. Mine hauls firewood, 8000 lb trailers, critters and my fat azz to work lol. But you are correct vehicles are certainly not an investment for sure. I just got tired of buying a another half worn out truck every two years, I am hoping to get at least 300k out of this new one. and I should I am a freak for maintenance and the truck body is aluminum so no rusty cab corners or box sides. I still get the steel frame Krowned. So my reckoning is if I keep the truck for ten years I will be without a payment for seven.

Congrats..you're one of the other types ... my comments are more in line with the other "average" guys who live in the burbs, you know who I mean, be honest I'll bet you know lots of guys that drive them and don't use them for what they told their wives they needed them for ..LOL..

Ha...it's the only time you see those fancy chrome plated P/U trucks out in public, otherwise Mon-Fri they're all sitting in the driveways in the burbs waiting desperately for the elusive run to the lumber store to buy that sheet of plywood..LOL..

I know lots of the 'average ' guys...My buddy drivers a Ram...never hauled anything in the back bigger than a roll of carpet (which they would have delivered for $15). He says he needs it to pull/launch his boat...which only happened 1/2 dozen times last year. He can't afford the fuel to drive it to the city (160km a day), it would cost him well over $100 a week.

No pissing contest, just the facts....

Like GW, I live in a farming rural area where there is a well used P/U in every driveway...I've always had one, since I don't commute (retired) gas is not an issue and since I buy older well broken in trucks I don't have a truck loan/lease payments so there is lots of money in the account for the $40 of gas that I burn in a week in my low tech truck ..LOL..

There is a big difference from a working P/U and the showy P/U that is never driven off hard stand. GW is looking for one of the working types that is affordable.

I hear you Barden...but you're not the exception, at least not this forum...outdoor guys do use their trucks more than most. But the sales numbers indicate there are a whack of trucks being sold to a lot of wannabes, that own them and don't 'need' them.

When I was in the Toyota dealership looking at a new Tundra for $62K I just shook my head....my first house was only a few dollars more....at least I made $10K on it when I sold it 4 years later :)

I guess if you have the money to burn away every month, buying a new ride is OK..but unless you actually use that RAM 2500 for work and can right it off, letting it sit in the driveway Mon-Fri because you can't afford the fuel to commute with it, makes really poor financial sense. Vehicle are the worse investment as it is.

Lets be honest here, looking around the CT parking lot on a Sat, very few trucks are ever used to haul stuff.....I'll bet most have never even seen a sheet of plywood let alone a moose :)

Can't believe you wasted thousands on that old truck. There's no reason why anyone should use anything more than an ebike and Uber.

Almost as entertaining as when a guy asked about a used truck for around $3k and guys feel the need to tell him he should buy a $30k truck ....:)

I have never had a major break down (Knock wood) with any of my cars or Trucks on average they last me 4 - 5 years and I pay approx 2500. To equal that a brand new truck at $60,000 would need to last me a minimum of 30 years. Will they last that long?

you have been lucky GW. One of the last cheapies I bought cost me a $3500 tranny and Tcase. I had just bought that damn thing so I was between a rock and hard place. There is no right or wrong answer to new or used.
