I like to think it weeds out the bad hunters and make it clear in the newspaper article that this individual/individuals are not a representative of the majority of good responsible hunters. We all know the good hunters knock on doors and ask for permission. I have signed documentation by the owners of the land I am allowed to hunt on.Quote:

All you can do is hope for the best and we all have the responsibility as hunters to promote good hunting ethics and advise our community how responsible we really are. No one said it would be easy. I hunt in Alvinston and i am one of three people who are allowed to hunt on a piece of property. I have come across trespassers before and i take their license plate down and called it in. I never seen them again after that. I just ask them for documentation ,a name and phone number of the owner of the property that allowed them to hunt on his property. i reach into my pocket showing the documentation i have giving me permission. They had a glazed look on their faces and walked away.
If you have the info and give it to the CO they will follow up after the fact. In my experience they visited the guys house and had a chat that resulted in him being charged and pleading guilty and paying the fine. No need to go to court.
Under the FWCA there are also provisions for seizure of property and suspension of hunting privileges.
CO's usually take trespassing to hunt calls pretty seriously. I would suggest getting in touch with the CO for your area and speaking to him personally about it. I'm sure he/she will be more than willing to help.
Some might want to be careful with the report of a "man with a gun on my property" to police. How that information gets passed to the police communicator and then the police officer could cause huge problems.
Most people charged with trespassing who know they were trespassing are usually not going to take it to court.
I have had that discussion with four family members who are police officers and all agree a trespasser with a gun on ones property warrants a 911 call or call to a CO. Remember the property owner has someone on their property with a gun or multiple hunters with guns. That is a very serious offense.Quote:
