What is it ? coyote !
why - pointed ears, cougars have slightly rounded ears!
why- look at the tail , not long enough , and as for not being bushy as per normal coyote, it could be due to mange.

Ok so some of you are blind or popping some hard pills or both.. Are we talking about pic #1 and #2? That is 100% coyote and it couldnt be clearer... geez I'd hate to be walking in the bush if some of you were loaded.. u might mistaken me for a moose! :)
Maine Coon Cat - largest domestic cat in the world. Males can be 20lbs+. Nice pointy ears. Saw one once at a friends place outside Newmarket and thought what the hell kind of cat is that?

Thanks Species, thats the cat species I was thinking of.
"Macon"...Lol!
Personally think it is.The lack of a snout all but eliminates all canids, and no idea how anyone can think Coyote unless its some deformed Coyote that's had half its face/head removed. Sometimes the process of elimination is easier than....
Its not canid (except some small few breeds)
And it's too small for a Cougar unless it's a juve. But then theres the ears that aren't quite right (too pointed and tall). And while some features might fit a Lynx well that to can be eliminated.
So are there any other felines out there that fit the bill, where almost nothing can be eliminated?

See above.
No question it's a coyote.
Care to explain the lack of a snout?
I know the image isn't great, and theres a remote possibility there is one, but can only go with what we can see and in the pic with its head turned theres no snout unless people are seeing I can't see even when zoomed in quite a lot.. Hence why so many think feline/cat or cougar.
"logically, if playing the odds, Coyote would be I think the safest bet. But don't understand how people can be so sure when no snout is visible, one of the most prominent features on dogs. And it can't be seen, when it should be.
Here's a pic of a coyote in profile as the one image thats a profile of its face.

also compare the lengths of that Coyotes snout to its ears. The snouts longer than its ears, in the pic with it's (whatever it is) head turned, the ears are "massive", relative to its face/head (and what little snout is visible).
edit
tried to re-word it as it may have come across wrong. One of the most recognizable features or differences between cats/dogs,and there are reasons why quite a few are leaning feline.....
Not a cat!! Cougars have more rounded ears and it just plain looks like a coyote. The lack of snout in the one pic is because its nightime and trail cams aren't clear
