Ah yes another meeting of the minds believing they have the all answers.
A religious feeling, not a belief in God.

Take a lesson from Star Trek. Three of the greatest physicists in history playing poker with Data. Hawking the Aetheist, Einstein the Agnostic, and Newton the Heretic Christian all playing nicely. The only thing appropriate is to extend condolences.

RIP Dr. Hawking
Well Eratosthenes calculated the earths diameter to within 1% in ...... oh about 200 BC, but haters and ideologues don't like learning and rant more and more it seems. Many credit am atheistic Christian hater in the mid 18th century with creating the flat earth story but for those that want to believe his "story" once again in a post truth period in history let them believe what they want, reality doesn't change.
Now as for Stephen Hawking, I only have one of his books but a very intelligent man. I much preferred John Polkinghorne, also a prof of theoretical Physics and chair at Cambridge. After his retirement he became a priest and has subsequently written several good books on the science and faith. I liked other science writers better, Polkinghorne and Alister Mcgrath (Phd in molecular biophysics) and Francis Collins (head of the human genome project) I probably have 2 or more of each of their books and those I would recommend.
I wasn't but I guess I will wade into that too... it just took me awhile to dig through book marks, mental note, someday organize them better... Isaac Newton would study the Bible for weeks at a time and when the auction of his non-scientific material came up for auction it was estimate over 1.2M words were written on faith and the Bible. His views on the nature of the Trinity or should I say the denial of the Trinity and say the nature of Jesus are where you would find his views differing from Christianity but as he aged and interacted with more in the Protestant line I will leave in God's hands to judge the final condition of his heart and faith. Some of his writings sound quite interesting but I just haven't had the time to dig into some of his writings. With Easter coming for example the usual description is of 3 years of ministry by Yeshuah but Newton felt there had possibly been 5 based on the scriptures. Lots more on an interesting man here...

* Note: Some of the interested alot of the texts have translations and there is alot on the early Church history he researched BUT alot are still is in Latin, Greek and Hebrew.
(ex. of a post 1710 writing on communion http://www.newtonproject.ox.ac.uk/vi...ized/THEM00006 for the dusty book and broken pot crowd like myself try and read some of the texts that show the edits etc. Harder to read but some may find interesting)
P.S. Just read it is actually over 2,000,000 words for his religious writing.
As for Albert Einstein as a Jew he often talked about science as a way to learn the mind of God but there seem to be quite a contrast between what he spoke, wrote in letters and said.
I don't know why I am wasting time on this discussion, but see the link below. There are plenty of references in there to look into if you don't want to believe what is summarized on Wikipedia.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Earth
Why, in your mind, would humans have originally believed that the Earth was a sphere? People with no knowledge of science could not have imagined that we are standing on a sphere. It's not intuitive.
Well now that we settled the question of how the universe came into existence - if there are any other questions please feel free to ask - we have a real team of experts that can handle any question - mean while back at the ranch -
No it is the result of observation. The way you are going on, it is like you think that the greatest scientists thought the world was flat till the 20th Century.
In the academic world they discuss flat earth type theories as a way to prevent mistakes. You look for example at the evidence that proves the Earth is flat, and then you look for the errors in the observations that can be made. This kind of academic exercise is done all the time.
