I have my own camp Gilroy, I choose my members wisely. We are all grown adults and don't need to be bossed around all week. There's two rules Gilroy, idiots and bosses are not welcome, and I gotta say it's been working out great.
As far as vacation hunters, that's some funny stuff right there..lol

Hard to know what to believe with these posts,first post you state you don,t hunt in group hunts,you don,t do this because you don,t like camp bosses.Then you state you hunt on your own OR with close friends or family.

Then finally you actually have your own camp.Are you saying you actually put up with a camp boss who was running your camp.If all these OTHER camps you attended in the past were so bad the problem might be yourself.

I understand your point. My cousin and a good friend bought 500 acres in the Burks Falls area for a bunch of coin so they have the right to rule the roost. The way I look at it if I don't like there rules then I should buy my own property

It really depends on how reasonable their rules are. With some folks the power goes to their heads and they end up being overbearing aholes while others are there to have a good time with their buddies and most rules revolve around safety and equitable sharing of chores.

In the past I've hunted at different places and groups anywhere from 5-6 to 16-18 guys, and out of each group I would know a couple. The rest where people I've never met until that week of hunting. Since having my own camp I now only hunt with people I know well and consider friends. Seems like the same people come back to my camp every year because there is no idiot boss.

More deep insightful insight from the wise one.

The solution is either split ownership (which ends up messy in the long run) or hunt with permission on property that nobody in the camp owns. That way there's no "boss" and everyone has equal stake and equal expectations.

Either that or travel far enough to larger tracts of crown land and do the same.

My old camp broke up and sold because of BS with the "boss". If you were to ask him, we were trying to "run his camp", even though we had an equal share.

We're now a group of 5 or 6 like-minded people, close family and friends, and it's a far more relaxed hunt and for the most part more successful.

Although I guess this is the cannabis thread so I should stay on topic. We don't make rules for what people can or can't do on their week away from home. As long as safety and common sense come first, that's all that matters. Enjoy what you like back at camp when the day is done.

That being said, one tradition in our little group has always been to carry a little airplane bottle of whisky in our pack so you can have a toast to your deer if you're lucky enough to get one.
