So you are saying that if a LEO reacts a certain way that the person they are confronting must have deserved it? Are you aware of all of the cases or Police misconduct out there? I mean the ones that are in the courts with police being convicted of crimes. What about that cop that blew away the kid on the street car with no other police officers concerned for their safety at all, I mean, that must have been justified because it was a police officer. There are 2 sides to every story, most of the time the truth lands somewhere in the middle.

I have had a few incidents where the local police lost all integrity and respect from me, just cops on a power trip.

I have been hunting and a firearms owner for 35 years and I am a more active hunter than most I know. Yet somehow in those 35 years of hunting I've managed not to have "multiple problems with clueless cops and cos".

Where do you live? Location is important.

That's great! Consider yourself lucky. Migratory bird hunting is where this almost always where these problems arise. We now call the police before the hunt when hunting certain fields. This has definitely helped at times.

Not exactly more like how a person reacts to a LEO direction dictates what they deserve. Ya sounds harsh but consider this.
Had the guy, knowing the RCMP were at the neighbors house and suspecting there was a concern, gone over and said what's up would there have been a tactical takedown needed?
Second opportunity with the first call had he said honey take care of the kids and gone immediately outside to speak to the RCMP would it not de escalated the situation?
And these are the tidbits given from their side of the story.
Can hardly blame them for preparing for the worst case scenario.
Ya have little sympathy for someone who doesn't make it easier on themselves even if it means swallowing their pride and attitude.

Yup hunting and fishing since 15 every chance I get and the same here. Got to make you wonder what we are doing wrong eh?

44 years a hunter for me and no problems with any CO. In fact those CO's I have been in contact with during any hunt , have gone out of their way to be very friendly.

Again your not understanding. There are plenty of good cos and cops out there I'm sure. Have I had smooth 5min checks. Of course I have.
All I'm saying is there needs to be more common sense used in these situations. Far too many of them happening. This could be you one day fff. If theres pile of decoys setup in a field, does a cop need to run in with a gun draw???. Does he need to destroy crops? I could go on and on. 2 sides to every story I get it. But rarely does a gun need to be drawn in one of these situations. Again common sense will go along way and could definitely prevent someone being shot! Get it?

What I don't understand from your story how a cop with his gun out got into your decoys without you making your presents known well before than?

Here I am. There are guys out there with guns not making themselves know. where are they? holy crap better prepare myself.

Your first point in this post is irrelevant here. A CO needs to do his job regardless of the circumstances and if that means he checks you out in the middle of a goose hunt to see if you are above board then so be it. If that means it takes an hour and a half to convince him the deer feed in the back of your truck isn't being used to bait migratory birds then that is what it takes. Perhaps next time you go out hunting leaving the deer feed at home might be a good idea. They have an obligation to enforce the FWCA. They don't have an obligation to check hunters after the hunt. How many times do you think CO's have heard a BS story from a guy caught red-handed poaching?

I have been on my deer stand when a CO comes through looking for hunters. Did it ruin my hunt? Yea. Did I get mad about it? No. They have a job to do and I would much rather have them out there making sure everyone is playing by the same rules opposed to not having them out there at all. I have had more good CO interactions than bad ones. CO's aren't robots and can have bad days just like the rest of us.

Again not understanding, or you just like to argue, or your a cop. We were in the fence row in camo. Looking straight out. He comes from our left. Didnt notice til he was close and stopped him after he ran by. Cops, cos can do absolutely no wrong in your eyes, I get it. I bring up the simple point of thinking of the situation dealing with. Drawing a gun should only happen in a dangerous situation. These are not dangerous situations and only made dangerous by law enforcement. Like I said I really hope this doesn't happen to anyone here. Especially when young children are present.
