Scorpyd Aculeus 460 most underrated crossbow

Congrats to you on a stellar season, great to see a young hunter out there with enthusiasm and passion.

Just something to keep in the back of your mind when you are boasting about taking 70 yard shots...currently British Columbia is banning scopes on crossbows in 2020...also theres an article circling the internet about a deer walking around with an arrow in it with fletchings sticking out in North Bay.....obviously not good for the sport of hunting...not trying to burst your bubble as it is great to see youth getting into hunting, but perhaps take this as a challenge to become a better hunter next year - what can you do to get the deer within 20-30 yards instead of 70 before you let an arrow fly?, perhaps challenge yourself to pass on smaller bucks and hold out for a mature animal, etc, etc?

This regulation change will be the death kiss for fast crossbows in BC-there should they search for the solution to their problem,they could find it not with banning scopes ,as such.
Alas-nothing we can do about it in BC.

I cant get mad at this guy for taking a 70 yard shot. Who are we to judge his skill set.

I know guys that shouldn't be shooting 20 yards at a deer with a bow and they still hunt.


I know one thing, I bet 40% of the bow hunters I know this year wounded a deer and didnt find it. I bet it was around the same percentage on facebook as well. The amount of people on there looking for blood tracking dogs, showing trail cam pics of the deer a few days later with arrows sticking out of its front shoulders.

Congrats on the 5 deer. That's a pretty good season if I do say so myself lol

Agreed! There are likely more deer wounded by buckshot than there are by archery.....

A longer shot could be stretched under the right conditions, with proper equipment, knowledge, experience, practice, & when the level of confidence based on the above do allow it.
While no shot should be taken sometimes at a live animal, period.

And some of the "judges" should look in the mirror more often, I'm sure they will always find something to critique.

I cannot believe what I'm reading here on a hunting forum. Anyone that knows anything about bow hunting knows that a 70 yard shot on a live animal with a bow is not a high percentage shot. I've been bow hunting for 20 years with a compound bow and have never shot at an animal over 35 yards, that's what bow hunting is all about, up close and personal. Even at 460 fps, (which I doubt that's what your bow is doing with hunting arrows in) its to much time for a deer to react.
You said on another forum you've been hunting for just over a year? In my opinion you have lots to learn.

This is likely a very broad statement,and perhaps not really helpful for hunters as a whole.
Barring statistics to support it , it is just an opinion. Better "maybe"-a personal experience while hunting alone or with others.

While wounding deer is never a great thing,and everyone should strive to try to avoid it as much as possible,with ANY legal firearm,bow ,crossbow etc, it still happens.The less-the better.The more higher percentage shots are taken -the better for all.
Even the best ones lose game here and there.


However few of these comments,and few bleeding hearts following this forum with intention to curb hunting, will quickly assure the future of hunting as such in Ontario will be grim.

I agree 100% with what your saying. The quartering towards you shot makes it even more risky. Bowhunting is definitely changing if you can even call it that anymore. Im sure changes will be coming with these newer more powerful bows. Eg. Shorter seasons, less tags, that sort of thing. Archery seasons were put in place when bows had literally half the speed they do now. Definitely takes some of the challenge out of it. I personally limit myself to 40 yrds. I respect deer way too much to take a marginal or risky shot. But thats just me. Posts like this will definitely open more eyes to shooting that far. Definitely not a good thing! Jmho
