I just said it's a lower velocity round than a 270. Nothing wrong with it at all, but nothing great either. It's moreless just a shadow of a 260 rem.

Yep, which is just a slightly faster 6.5x55mm Swedish. The key part here is that the bullet is bloody efficient, more so than the 7mm and the .277 bullet, hence why it is becoming so significant in long range shooting. The 260 Rem was just not pushed like the 6.5 CM is.

The really crazy part is that there are very few .277 bullet cartridges, there have been tons of 6.5mm (.264) cartridges around when you look back at military history, for some reason it was chosen by a lot of armies since the late 1800s, it is a proven winner. The problem with the 6.5 is that it is metric and Americans cannot accept metric. It is honestly surprising that the 6.5CM is becoming so big but the marketing on it is huge.

No, you probably cannot get the 6.5CM right now in your corner store but you also probably cannot get the Barnes TSX 270 Win or Hornady Superformance in the corner store either. I never get how people talk about buying the ammo locally, there are so many manufacturers and bullet weights now that you cannot just go buy a box of yours anywhere anymore. Put the ammo in the hard case with the rifle and don't lost your rifle, ha ha ha.

Both are long range killers for sure.

But anywhere that sells ammo, you will find the time tested rifle cartridges like 223,22-250, 243, 270, 30-30, 308, 30-06, 7mm mag, 300mag. To boot they all have a wide variety of factory offerings that cover pretty much all hunters needs. If your not a reloader a cartridge that's widely available and prices lower than the oddballs may be something to take into consideration when choosing a rifle.

Interesting conversation,alas about half of it is not to the OPs original question.
270 vs 6.5 Creedmore or perhaps 260 or 6.5 swede.......

Seems if you own one,or dislike the other one-there are myriad or reasons to talk the one up-or the other down.
Kind of like discussing Chevy vs Ford.......good pastime in the dead season.

So-if you are not in the market of a new gun,keep what you have.Will do the job.If you are in a market or can afford another of these Cal-go for it,have fun ,and keep us posted.

It's as close of a comparison as one can get, the 260 will best the CM by about 50fps with factory loads and hand loaders can do far better with a 260 in terms of trajectory. It was truly brilliant advertising that brought the CM to where it is.

That's indeed what got it to where it is. What it will ever amount to will wait and see. The wssm, wsm, rsaum, rcm, rum, have for the most part fizzled out

264 Win Mag is up there too, but any of these super fast narrow bullet cartridge guns are known to be barrel burners.

The 260 failed and the 6.5CM may in the end fail but the marketing right now and the availability of rifles is insane, the entire industry is pushing the 6.5CM, hard to fail when everyone with money in the game is pushing it.

At this moment the ammunition offerings from Cabelas.

6.5 CM - 12
270 Win - 27
30-06 - 40
30-30 - 13
260 Rem - 0
243 Win - 22
308 Win - 37

I think the CM is doing ok, at this point in time ammunition is not going to be an issue, 5 years maybe, 10 years we shall see but at the moment this thing is like the original iPhone.

agreed on the recoil. Its pretty much identical to the 30-06 for recoil. I swear people that say the 270 has little recoil have never shot them.

Always humoured when watching an American video and they get confused over the "mm" when reading a caliber. its a 7 "MM" - as appose to a 7 millimeter. Clueless lol.

The reason them made the 280 Remington and not the 7mm-06, surprised they called it the 7mm-08.

My girlfriend never shot a gun until she met me. First gun she shot was a 270 and had no issues at all.
