I use a safety vest with hang-on stands, but don't with the ladder / roll bar. I don't think you could fall out of it even if you tried. You'd need to be standing up to fall. I guess there is the bit of time between getting into the stand and sitting down and standing up and getting out, but the vest wouldn't be tied up for this either.
The only safety option i'm aware of for this is the HSS Lifeline and Muddy Safeline systems. You're tied in before your feet leave the ground

I think I will build a fence around the whole stand so my son cannot fall out. It has a rail so he can rest the gun and won't be hard to add a fence around it.
Maybe put one around mine as well in case he ends up using it.
My kids lives are worth more to me than $100. My son that is hunting wears a harness. I can’t even imagine why this is a discussion: there has been many a dead guy found at the bottom of a tree stand.
I built a fence all the way around the stand as well as secured the ladder right to the tree he will have to be Houdini to fall out.
Haven't decided for myself, don't want to use any more wood.
I went a bit further than a fence, although the early version of my platform sort have had that, and all went well until the tree decayed and fell down and then I raised my platform on a stout oak.
My current platform is lugged to the oak, with the four corners supported by cedar up rights. Above it is roofed The front, back and sides are walled in with chipboard, which has slide up shutter that can be raised for shooting . I build a ladder in the one corner. It has rungs that I cut from chain-link fencing pipes and affixed to two cedar up rights bolted into the platform. The inner up right I left long to pivot around to decent the ladder. The ladder entrance I can close up with a trap door arrangement. The platforms about 5' by 2 1/2', I can sit my fold out chair at the one end where I have a table shelf, at the other end I can have a tent heater over the trap door to provide a bit of heat. I use a couple small old Plexiglas storm window to cut down on the wind at the one end. They work well on a set of rough tracks, which I built under its shutter.. .
You don’t stop hunting because you grow old. You grow old because you stop hunting.

There’s more danger than falling out of the stand. A part can break resulting in the stand collapsing from under you. I might be concerned about being trapped by a rail or a fence on the way down.
