There is a difference between storage and transport, that instructor was telling you that your gun was being transported safely and stored legally but if you put a gun on the floor of your car and go in for the night that gun would not be defined as legally stored, especially if there was ammunition in the vehicle.

You can keep your ammo right beside your gun, if they are in a locked room, that is spelled out in the RCMP storage documentation.

I would suspect it is the fact that safe storage regs were drawn up by the federal government and the MNR is provincial. I don't believe the MNR had any input in their creation, although they can enforce them.

So being a smart ars- you are going to tell the officer who turns up at your cottage a bunch of lies to get out of your tricky situation.Oh you ask how would they know that the gun is from my cottage.
Well the criminal who just got caught with it just told the officer where and when he broke into and stole it from.

Still playing smart guy and lying,well your gun might get fingerprinted and your little prints might show up on that nice oily surface.Or you have pictures of the said gun on social media, I could go on.

So now your looking at offence number 2

COs dont normally enforce the FA. Up until this past year, when the FWCA was amended to include your firearms licence as proof of accreditation, to use a gun, they didn’t have any interest in seeing your firearms licence. Now, not carrying your licence is a provincial offence under the FWCA.
The Criminal Code and Firearms Act are just a couple federal statutes that is normally not their purview.
Actually, unless things have changed, COs are not “Peace Officers” as defined under the CC.
