To answer the the question ! I put on 140,000 km's on my 1998 well maintained GM truck that I had for only a few years. Oh and I won't elaborate any further !

This thread makes me laugh.

Have yet to own a truck, but that day is just around the corner for me.

My buddy's wife is always bragging about how great her 2011 GM is and how it's coming up on 600,000kms.
My buddy (owns a mechanic shop) says "yeah, but for the last 4 years I've put $3000-$5000 worth of parts into it, each year, and haven't charged you for labour!"

I don't know if the mileage is the only issue - how many repairs were done to the vehicle - heck you could get a million miles if you are willing to keep putting in new parts - the question is how many miles did you get before you had to spend any sizeable amount of money on it

I suspect Joe, that's the most important question, as that's the "breaking point". For some they are able to go years/Kim's without having to put significant $ into a vehicle. Thus many years/miles and smiles. For others, that day comes a lot sooner and leaves a bad taste.

i don't care what anyone says. When people spend tens of thousands on something, it should last. Reality is, many/most don't and hence negative experiences. I think people can be "excused" for voicing their displeasure. Having spent possibly 40,50,60 k on a truck that turned into a money pit.

others think differently and that's ok to.

as I said, it's nice reading the examples of many years/Kms. However those will be the minority/rare exceptions

Yes I have to agree with the both of you on that and it's unfortunate because I had a really bad experience with my GM product along with poor customer service. That is why I only buy proven vehicles today with a good reputation for service as well. If another country builds a better product I'm going to purchase it. You can't beat the 0% financing that Hyundai, Mazda and KIA are offering. Too bad KIA or Hyundai do not build a pickup.
