What I wish for is your values as a hunter not imply its my values as a hunter, what you might kill may not be what I would kill.

Not real sure if I would consider you that well educated on bear hunting if you need to ask advice on where to locate a bear bait site.

'I also know that bear hunting is for most hunters a “sport” and not a primary or necessary food-gathering activity.'
Well hunters also know that newspaper articles on hunting is for most journalist an anti-hunting production and not a primary or necessary fact gathering activity.
The level of ignorance in this author is appalling. Every point he makes can be disputed with actual facts.
The climb in nuisance bear complaints did not occur because of poor berry crops as the ministry claimed. The contrary evidence was the astronomical climb in nuisance complaints during the Spring and Summer, outside of the berry crop season. https://www.ofah.org/2004/06/number-...r-calls-soars/
Note the date on this article and the number of complaints to date, keeping in mind that the number of nuisance complaints before the spring bear hunt cancellation was around 500 calls per year. The last numbers I saw on complaints were over 20+ thousand a year around the time of the reintroduction.
The Ministry's excuse was horseshyte then and still is now. The media report it without question and that allows people to put hunters in their nice little box so they can character assassinate us. Kind of like the above posts.
absolutely agree, and vice versa. We are free to make that choice.
My issue is when others think that because they wouldn't kill one species that nobody should. That is a very slippery slope. I'm 99.999% sure I will never kill a giraffe, but I sure don't begrudge someone who does if they do so following the game laws of that country.
Well I never stated that,I simply stated killing a giraffe is not for me.
Following game laws is great but does not always end great for us hunters.Look at all the species of animals almost extinct that had game laws protecting them.We have had game laws protecting Moose but look at the sorry state of affairs the population is in.
