Far too often, I see comments along the lines of "what will griping on social media accomplish".
Answer: Lots

All one needs to do is recall how fast politicians reacted when the public at large howled on social media about politicians that flew south for Christmas. Makes me chuckle in a sad way. The silent majority can and will "stick their heads in the sand" despite obvious "wrongs", but get their knickers in knots over fluff.

Our treatment of Indigenous people while not "brutal" to the extent of the US treatment of same, was and is "shameful" for a so called civilized, wealthy, Country. Sure, the residential school system started over a century ago. It continued in my lifetime. As have issues around clean drinking water, missing women, women being sold into the sex trade, and more.

Yep, maybe that's why the silent majority......does what it does best.
Two white boys murder a few well to do tourist. We mobilized multiple law enforcement agencies, the military, used all kinds of resources tracking them across the north...

The problem appears to be that past mistakes eventually catch up with us, and create present day problem. I’ve heard it said over and over; all those lazy no good for nothing people want is more and more of our hard earn money. Imagine if you will the relationship between tenants and their landlord. Then imagine the tenants saying the exact same thing about their landlord. What is different, is a landlord needs an income to live on as well as pay taxes, and do up keep in order to stop his property from becoming run down, through the recklessness of the tenants. So where do these people get off, they do need income to live on, but they don’t pay taxes, and their only upkeep concerns are relate to continuous habitat reduction, environmental poisoning, and tenants refusing to pay up for their rights to the land, promised during past treaty arrangements.

We could sum that up by saying, just as the silent majority enables polictians, we ( Canadians) have enabled first nations. How has that ever worked when dealing with 12 year olds. But, is it the child's fault, or the parents...And when you end up with 30 year old kids, that don't know how to adult, don't know how to function in the world...Whose responsibility is that?

Part of the problem, I feel, is that it's come to a point, where there is over reaction on some topics, inaction on others. Would this latest with unmarked graves, be something we might call low hanging fruit?

The answers, about what can be done now are not remotely simple. Do we not need to start somewhere?
Our friend, a GP ( currently helping with Covid because her specialty is geriatrics) spent the early part of her career in Northern Ontario on reserves. Where young mothers have to be taught it's ok to love their children. Why don't they? Well when they die young and theres no emotional attachment.....How messed is that?

We took a once proud independent people removed them from their natural elements and migratory lifestyle. Placed them on reservation and provide for their needs by putting them on what can only be described as a welfare. Because we wanted their lands on which to build a nation. You asked whose responsibility are they? If I’ve got the treaty arrangements and obligations right, it appears that it makes them primarily Canada’s responsibility...
Those unmarked graves fundamentally stand to demonstrate an unfeeling lack of concern for the children who were taken from them, and how abysmal were the efforts in attempting to assimilation them..
Where do we go from here? Good question. Some indigenous people are finding their way into our headspace, while others are choosing to stay clear. It maybe just a question of time as the elders die off, and a younger generation moves forward and eventually integrates into our lifestyle. Until then, it is what it is. It might have been interesting to see what would have resulted in following the protocol of the Royal Proclamation. I suspect a much smaller Canada and possibly a greater U.S.A.. .
